I am at AU58. I think they hold this one back. There was a lot of abuse to the die before the coin was struck, It hard to tell wear, for me. Some of the darker high points could be the lighting and it could be a weak strike. I don't know the series well enough to say MS.
Again, thank you all for your opinions. Quite a spread from AU53 to MS2... this one seems difficult to grade, and the small size does not help. Is it wear, or is it strike? My eyes see no wear, but I am definitely no expert when it comes to higher grade seated coins. This is one probably one of the of the coins I need to have graded at some point. Not so easy though here in Europe. I have the choice between PCGS (in Paris) or NGC (Munich). NGC would be easier for me. Which would you guys consider preferable for early U.S coins and stuff like this?
Personally I prefer pcgs. Though that’s partly because I like their holders better and they seem to sell better. As to their customer service I like ngc better. And they can both be dreadfully slow and inconsistent
Not yet.....but I will.... I do have a complete date set 29 -37 but now working on die marrages. This would take a lifetime which I no longer have.....the time but I buy as many as I can afford as well what is available when I see them. I do have some sweet specimens, as well variety coins. I am very happy with my collection.... not the best but I am making huge progress. now i need that 58 inverted date. LoL
Not wishing to grade cuz i can't. Will try to help by observing wear on right arm. Bottom denticuls looh crushed. Hoping for a positive grading to your liking. Wish i knew more and was more helpful
This is one that I like a lot. The 'with drapery' Philadelphia and New Orleans mint half dimes of 1840 are interesting and quite elusive in higher grades, from what I have seen. This one has intense multicolor toning. ANAC EF45.
I'm searching for the 1840 RPD 001 it has an obv. Bisecting die crack top to bottom through the date. 1840 half dime hubs were reworked both rev and obv. The entire figure was remodelled. You have a Valentine #7 there... nice coin .
this pair of 1837 I love as it one of each of the two varieties curved date and straight date. plus the 7/7
You really have an impressive collection of H10C's. Another one which is quite interesting is the 1840-O with drapery.
