I just found one today that is almost identical to this except the year on mine is 2007 and there is no mint letter or in God we trust. Also mine is the silver version but the back is exactly the same. Does anyone know more about mine? I forgot to mention that on mine it says 50 united states*one nation on the top WHERE IT SAYS UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and 51st state proof on the bottom where it says QUARTER DOLLAR
Check out this link: http://www.moonlightmint.com/other.htm Some of these were designed by Daniel Carr: "In 2004 I was contracted by National Collectors Mint (NCM), a coin marketing company, to design novelty Washington DC and Puerto Rico quarters. They were minted with dates ranging from 2004-2009, in silver-plated and solid silver versions (the 2005 Puerto Rico solid silver version is unconfirmed). " (dates from 2004-2008) (2009 date)
Very interesting. Found this past discussion on Washington D.C. quarter dated 2004. I have 6 of these. They are silver and stamped COPY. Bought as scrap from an individual 8 to 10 years ago.
These are Daniel Carr designs minted by a private mint from the research I have done. They are not rare, but are collectable.
I just found one of these, slightly different... the front has "51st STATE PROOF" at the bottom. & "50 UNITED STATES ONE NATION" ...And on the back its 2008....any ideas?
Found this coin slightly different Front side, top "50 UNITED STATESONE NATION" Bottom "51st STATE PROOF" back....2008 Any ideas, struck me as odd???
@Vanessa Herring If you read through the posts in this thread, you should have your answer. If there is anything specific you don't understand after reading it, just ask
It is worth silver spot, if it is a silver coin. Does yours say copy? If so, probably silver. It is worth what someone will pay above spot for a collector. $4.00, maybe $5.00 to a collector of Daniel Carr Designs. Is it like mine below?
Yours is a 2008 dated coin made to go along with the State Quarters that ended in 2008. From the pictures, I cannot tell if it is silver or not. If silver, on the rim it might say .999. If not silver, it is a novelty coin collected by some people. Its value is minimal, but a keeper for the collection.
I appreciate your help...Does not appear to sound like silver and does not have .999 on it....so it being a novelty item, is it a legitimate quarter?
Someone I know gave me a couple of quarters like that. They are silver plated copies of Washington quarters, sold as an "investment" He thought they were valuable. They are very pretty, but obviously not a real quarter, and with COPY stamped on them, are technically not even worth face value.
I saw something about a dealer selling renderings of the unselected designs of state quarters. Don't recall if they were sold as a subscription or a set. I've only ever seen them as singles usually in dealer junk boxes.
