I thought the date was suspicious, and another member said it was a fake. you know what happened from there. I just compared it to photos on the Lost Dutchmans site and it looks ok to me as well. here is the pic.
response to the man12...how would you feel if you got taken for a ride.Just the principle of the matter.
I would feel stupid and think of it as a learning experience. Luckily you didn't get taken. If you want to keep thinking it's a fake and complaining, feel free to do so, but I'm not going to argue with you about it.
I personally wouldn't care over $6 I would just do a payapl dispute and return it for my $6 back principle or not it's $6 no reason to get all ****ed off it's not like he killed you but seeing as it is most likely a real coin it's yet another reason to not fly off the handle getting mad the world isn't out to get you. at least I wouldn't think it is for $6 otherwise I would think the world has gone nuts
I am new kinda new to coin collecting. Can you expand on how you determined that this quater is a fake just by looking at the photo or was it when you actually got it in hand that you made the determination. Is there something about the quater in the picture that anyone can point to that would help determine it is's "fakeness". Anything anyone can share would certainly help!!
a good question...and the answer is (drum roll please)....it's not a fake but a good question...feel free to ask plenty more!
You should have learned two things with this coin: 1. Post it here before declaring it's fake to the seller, unless it's painfully obvious (aka: sticks to magnet or has a seam or . . . .). :computer: 2. Label your thread in such a way it will draw in readers. I don't read every thread on here. I read the titles, do mouse-overs on ones that look good and if the brief looks good, then I click on it and read the thread. I didn't read your other thread because the title didn't appeal to me but you sucked me in with this one's title. Ribbit
I would be interested in seeing what Hobo thinks of this coin - in the other thread he labled it as a fake. Now I trust Hobo's knowledge on coins, and really on fake coins, but I really feel like this is a real coin. Speedy
I would wait a day or two for the seller to respond if he doesn't offer a refund then you can file a claim with Paypal and or eBay and they will start an investigation.
I really HATE it when people create two threads with the same question and the one I post an answer to gets CLOSED. In that other thread I said I didn't like the 1 & 9 in the date. The nine looked like it had a straight vertical leg rather than a curved leg and the one didn't look right to me. The photo was small and not the best. Now that I have seen the auction photo the numerals look OK to me. (Keep in mind that I an not a student of Washington Quarters.) If we had better, larger photos or the coin in hand we could more definitively ascertain whether the coin is genuine or not. Like others have said, I don't know why anyone would counterfeit a $5 coin but counterfeiters have done stranger things.
Pete, Go to a bar that has $1 draft beers. Drink six of them. Leave the quarter as a tip. And convince yourself on the way out that you just drank a sixpack of bottled beer and spent $12 getting lit. Have someone drive you home and forget that this ever happened. Before you think I am kidding, consider that my advice is better than continuing to worry about being ripped of for $6, principle or not.
I DID get taken on a US Mint Set (Silver) when the envelope arrived and the plastic packaging had been opened and the coins taken out and no it was not done in transit. No response from seller so I left negative and threw the containers in the trash never to be revisited again. Is 6 dollars really worth the effort? Not in my day. From other posters and the pic of the quarters shown it doesn't look like you have a case anyway but to prove that it will cost you a bit more money.
It looks genuine to me. But either way, I think you're overreacting and suggest that you take a deep breath and slow down. Think for a moment about the worst case scenario - it's extremely minor in the grand scheme of things.
I'd like to point out something . . . . While $6 is nothing to many of us, I know others that $6 is their coin budget for the week and even for a month. So while we can drop $6 for a counterfeit and not bat an eye, others can't and there's also the principal that's involved so be careful busting someone for complaining about losing $6 on a coin, it might be all the money they have. :eating: Ribbit Ps: I still think it's authentic.
Pening on how much you ended up paying for that, this is true. There is a growing market for good fakes. And I too am not sure it is a fake.
LOL! Yeah, well I try to close the thread that has the fewest number of replys....you just seemed to hit on that! Speedy
Here is Your coin: Here is one from the Heritage Archives: Looks real to me. Let me know if you can't see the Heritage pic. I will host the photo myself if need be.
