We appear to be in the same general area (I'm Silver Spring, MD). You might want to consider the NOVA shows in Annandale, VA (2/yr I think). And although it's a bit of a trek the Hagerstown, MD shows (2/yr I think). The 4 Vienna, VA shows aren't that good and REALLY cramped for space.
I'll do the Oklahoma (ONA--May 6-8) and Texas state association shows (TNA May 20-22) and usually 1 national show such as FUN or Central States. This year I'm going to the ANA National Money Show (March 3-6) in Dallas as my biggie. Like Charlietig above--mostly just to catch up with friends from around the country that I only see at shows.
Sorry to hear that. In 60's -70's Vienna was one of the best around. A bunch of us are now down in FL.
I went to 3 last year 2 nh coin expo in Manchester and one in Westford ma. as a dealer set up. And I went to Westford to shop a couple times too I intend to do more this year. I like the mid size shows with 50-150 tables
I have tried to attend at least one show per year for at least 40 years. With more time to spare the last 10 years I've attended 8 to 12 per year. Not always to buy, but sometimes to sell; and always to learn. Knowledge in this hobby is essential.
There's a nice quarterly coin show just down the highway. I also go to others in the area. Our big one is the Gulf Coast show in Biloxi during the summer.
I try to go to at least 1-2 a month. There are 3 monthly ones within relative short distance from my house. Considering I work construction during the week day,by the time I get home I am pretty beat usually,so for me its a something to get me out of the house on the weekends and doing something. I enjoy them, I always have the same couple of dealers I spend 5-15 mins talking too each time around and its just a all around enjoyable experience for me.
So far only one small local show if I'm lucky enough to make it. I'd like to go to more but that will have to wait for now.
I went to exactly ONE last year. But considering how many I went to over the preceding decade, 2015 was one for the record books. Of course I also recently discovered websites that actually tell me about all of the shows I could miss, so perhaps I'll try not to miss them going forward. Ah, the power of information.
I usually average 0-1. I'm excited because this is the first time since I started school that I've been able to go to one. This will probably be all the money I can spend on coins this year though lol.
I average about 1-2. I'm going to the Red River Coin Show in Fargo ND next weekend. Then in Feb the Aberdeen SD show.
About 7 or 8 a year. Always do the three Baltimore shows, GSNA in North Jersey, Wilmington (DE) Coin Club Show, and a few in Burlington, NJ. Bruce
Local shows? Usually 4 a year. Two in Lancaster, PA, one in Reading, PA, and I usually manage to swing one other one around the region. I work the Lancaster ones because I'm heavily involved with the host club. Major shows - with a few exceptions, I like to hit either NYINC or winter FUN every year. I will usually catch one of the three Baltimore Whitman shows, sometimes two. The third one, mid-summer, is an almost never. I have now gone several years without missing an ANA show, National Money Show and World's Fair of Money. I am a National Volunteer for the ANA, which means I do whatever job they need me for at ANA shows - photography for The Numismatist included. Whatever Rhonda Scurek has for me to do, I do. On my "gotta get to" list is the OP's Gettysburg show, and a Monroeville PAN show. I'd like to "build" a "PAN East" show eventually at Reading's downtown civic center, the Santander Arena. Huge potential. That said, my best source of sweet coins is local back-country coin auctions that have no internet bidding. Most of those are in "Gound Zero" for the present Blizzard of 2016.
Never attended a coin show in my life. Some of the old dudes on this site will tell you that you can't survive in the numismatic world without the "invaluable" experience afforded by coin shows. Don't worry, the old poker pros said the same thing about internet poker players. Next time you watch the WSOP, take a look at the average age of the guys at the final table.
