I can understand that, but you will probably continue to offend people by doing so. I think it you included a signature on your posts that you do it because of poor eyesight so it is easier to read it will mend fences and help keep people from being offended.

there is a tread on one of the forums where someone claims he recently purchased two of them for $200 each.

Like I bought any of these money grabs :hilarious: Hey, buy what you like but this piece of bullion horse apple that they couldn't even produce correctly and will make more than the already huge number of 125k if they want is a long term DUD pure and simple. This initial rush will be just that and they will be sinking like rocks soon enough.

It's not a coin, it's bullion that they poorly produced as a pure money grab in the guise of a commemorative. What a joke and mockery of a great classic coin. :vomit:

We're of an age, then; I turned 57 a few days ago.

I'm only taking this tack because it seemed you felt you were getting "bargains" with your purchases, when in fact they were middle-of-the-road prices today for issues whose long-term value is highly debatable. Your intent to pass them on works in your favor with regard to your heirs, as does purchasing sets rather than individuals. All the same, if you look more broadly at Modern issues, you see that very few retain value past the first few years of excitement and those which do tend to hew to the "traditional" value-adders of mintage scarcity and condition rarity.

I realize paying $200.00 was quite a bit since that would come up to $2,000.00 an ounce when gold is just below $1,300.00 an ounce at the moment.
I just like buying what I like & think the coins are really nice.
    Happy Birthday!!!!

Is that a reference to buying them from the mint?

That is exactly how much I paid The U.S Mint at 12:10 on April 21st.

Relative to the rest of the feeding frenzy, you did well and should feel secure in the quality of the investment. These - despite my admitted hatred of them - ought to retain numismatic value into the future by virtue of their small mintage. 125k is a rarity in a circulating coinage, and although I don't expect any issue like this to enjoy the broad collector base that most actual circulating issues do, it's still pretty favorable.

I was online at noon when the coins went on sell (U.S Mint) & actually thought about buying the limit of 10 & selling them on Ebay since I noticed they are selling for $300.00/each.
I settled on just the 2 dimes & really happy with how they look.
They actually look a lot better when holding them in person.

I wish these coins were struck in .900 silver so they could actually have the correct dimensions. And of course, an available gold version.

And gold is a softer metal than silver, but they still couldn't get FB? Wow, we really need to make coins great again.

As would be mine what with my eBay store and all. But the seller I quoted doesn't have an ebay store.

Shoot, that's some really stupid money spent........my point was that the raw sets could be had for much less. I wasn't aware (at the time) that Mike was buying them graded.......I know fellows like buying the graded bullion pieces, but I (collector) prefer them in OGP. Others (collectors) prefer the slabbed variety.....to each his own, but the skinflint in me says that the slabbed pieces cost way too much.........Heck, most of these coins grade out between '68 to '70, the vast majority in '69. Why add the expense? Collecting (itself) is expensive enough......:)
