Again, thanks for the pics. I really like the flying Eagle that Payton & Magman posted however the spead of the wings may be too wide for my arm. I really like the Eagles that Krispy posted. The front runner right now is the Eagle in the first set of pics from ABNC Archive Series 1987. I really like the one on the bottom right corner. I would keep the vines or tree limbs out and have a differant style ribbon. Also, I have decided to just go plain black, think it looks much better than with color.. I'm in no rush but would like to have it by June. Decisions, decisions...:desk:

The Queen of the Air, 1878

Brian, I cropped in close to the eagle vignette you mentioned you liked and desaturated the color to black and white. This vignette is called, "The Queen of the Air" Engraved by James Smillie, at the American Bank Note Company in 1878.

The vignette appears on the following stock and bond certificates:

    • Central Arizona Light & Power Co., Coupon Bond, 1927
    • Bethlehem Steel Corp., Coupon Bond, 1927
    • American Lithographic Co., Stock Certificate, 1892
    • American Cigar Co., Coupon Bond, 1902

You can often find collectible stock certificates and bond coupons available online from collectors at: Scripophily or Clinton Hollins if you wanted to locate a print of your own.

Thanks Krispy, that looks awesome up close. I really liked the links as well. I need to get this on paper with that detail. Great vignette!

Thanks! Each portfolio in the ABNCo Archive Series contained about 12 sheets with several original die vignettes ganged up together. Each sheet came with an accompanying list for each vignette where it once appeared in original use.

Ken Barr Numismatics is a great go to source for ABNCo vignettes if anyone is interested. He is also an eBay Seller under the name: kenbarrnumis.
