bad coin grading services

Anyone wondering why I posted the above info, well here it is.
NO, I didn't buy any of their crap, I am way to smart for them.

People like Mr. David and Eric Sparks are simply ruining the online coin industry.
They sell their SELF graded crap as 3rd party graded stuff, MOST of us know better but many people don't

When it comes to EBay, EBay is bringing many new coin collectors into the hobby and making it real easy for them to find what they are looking for. EBay also makes it real easy for people like the Sparks brothers to rip off these new collectors.. Most of the time, new collectors have No idea, at all, that they have been screwed. If and when they do find out, they get a very bad feeling about coins and most of all, buying coins on EBay.

It is high time the eBay community ran these scammers out of town, Off EBay..
It is quite obvious that EBay is very happy with letting this little scam continue, because EBay profits greatly from it.

Well GANG, we all end up pay the price for the spark's brothers actions.
Sellers and buyers alike are affected by these scumbags, and make no mistake about it, they are SCUMBAGS!

It is high time we all get organized and run these fools off eBay once and for all.
There is power in numbers, and if just SOME of the sellers and collectors united in the cause these dirt bags would soon be history.

I feel it is my duty, both as a coin collector and seller to expose these dirt bags, for what they are, Scammers.
I am done playing fair, these dirt bags sure don't play fair. So it is high time to fight fire with fire.
My main mission in life is seeing these guys booted off EBay at the very least, In jail would be preferable

I am going to be on these boys like white on rice.

Some brave souls tried and got booted from eBay. However it looks as though Zaneman recently started a successful campaign against a villain but himself became a causality, at least for a short time.
Maybe you are the chosen one for this. Read every post on the above thread for good background information. Good Fortune in your quest.

 

Stay away from the majority

As so many others will tell you stick with PCGS, NGS, ANACS or ICG. They've been around and are respected by MOST dealers. ANACS will slab a "problem" coin and personally I like them as I think they are stricter graders.
PCGS gets the best resale value in my opinion but I don't think ANY of them are always right. Coin grading IS based on opinion that's why all of the GARBAGE grading services exist. The "big four" have higher respected opinions.

One thing that I HAVEN'T seen in this thread (and I haven't read them all) is basic. Get an official ANA grading book and start reading! NOBODY knows all of the subtle nuances of grading. I can't grade a Peace Dollar to save my life and been doing this for 35 years. Don't really like them but I can grade a Two Cent Piece at a glance because I DO like them. Did you know that an 1867 Two Cent Piece with a full strike is uncommon? Right in the middle of the series but I once saw an 1867 slabbed MS64RB by NGC with no WE visible on the banner.

Getting my drift? Stick with respected services and work at learning grading yourself so you can make better decisions.

hmm.... PCGS, PCCS, NGC, NCG, SGS, SEGS, ICG, IGC, UGS, SUGS, KMAGS.

As you can see there is a common theme here. Grading companies and initials as names. If their name is a group of initials do not trust what the slab says. Get a book or two or three. Maybe a computer program. Look at what makes a coin a particular grade. See examples after examples of various grades.

Then you grade the coin yourself, and maybe buy the coin off of the grade you give it. You cant ever lose that way, you get a neat little coin holder, and you become more involved in your chosen hobby.

For retail purposes, of course buy cheap, sell high, and realize PCGS adn NGC will almost always sell higher than anyone else

Abon Coins aka SGS

I agree, Abon Coins is really giving coin collecting a black eye. I looked at some of these MS70 SGS coins. I might give them a 60/61 rating (if that high).
You can get some good deals on eBay, but you had better know what you are doing and with whom your dealing. Everyone is an 'expert grader' it seems nowadays. I look at the coin, the higher the close-up the better, then I determine what I think it is. A lot of these MS or AU grades look more like EF-40's to me and that is how I determine my bidding, with the help of current greysheets. I am not calling anyone a liar, but if I am buying a coin, then it is my judgment, not the sellers, that counts. When I sell coins I never grade, again I feel it is the buyers responsibility to grade the coin themselves. Slabs are nice for sure when considering a coin, but it is not the only degree of judgment. I saw some coins from China, Trade Dollars, that were slabed and 'graded', by who I have no idea - never heard of them, and most of us are aware that the majority of Trade Dollars from China just "ain't" what they are suppose to be. PCGS and ANACS have been around for a long time and are respectable grading services. But coin grading is a very hard area to define, and to be sure anyone can make a mistake or a determination that another will dispute. This SGC seems real good at making mistakes or way over grading. We all want the best coins for our collections that we can afford, and sometimes it may be a MS/PR70 and other times an AG3. I wouldn’t blink an eye at a low grade 1973 Flowing Hair Cent (Wreath or Chain) or a 1916 Standing Liberty quarter, if the price was right, to ‘fill the hole’ in one of my collections. But as the old saying goes; ‘Pay your Money, Take your chances’, just be as informed as you can be. Some times it helps to talk to someone that might know a little more than you do. A forum like this is a great place to get some ideas on what is going on.
As for these people on the Shopping Channel, well back in the old days we called them ‘Snake Oil Salesmen’. Who in there right mind would pay $199.00 for a coin you can get from the US Mint for say $33.00? My mother called me up one night and asked me if this would be ‘A Good Investment”. I guess you know my answer.
eBay is a BUSINESS and it is out TO MAKE MONEY. They really don’t seem to care about cheats and liars as long as the get their cut from the sale. Remember Judas liked silver coins.

Your opinions are shared by many here. It would be nice if somehow we could spread the word to people before they bid on this garbage on eBay. (But that would lower the selling price of many coins and stop the sale of many others entirely and that would hurt eBay's bottom line. Don't expect any help from eBay on this.)

I CHECKED OUT EBAY REGARDING ABONCOM (SHOULD BE ABOMCON) AND I THINK YOUR ABSOLUTELY CORRECT JUST ABOUT ALL OF THERE AUCTIONS ARE THE SGS VARIETY.

I CLICKED ON SOME FEEDBACK AND PEOPLE WERE COMPLAINING. BUT THIS COMPANY DOES A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF BUSINESS, HOW ARE YOU GOING TO CONVINCE EBAY THEY SHOULD BE BOOTED.

I ALSO WENT TO AN ABONCOM AUCTION AND HERE IS WHAT I FOUND AN 1889-CC MORGAN DOLLAR WITH A SGS HOLDER THAT HAD NO SPECIFIC GRADE EXCEPT CERTIFIED. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN (EXACTLY RIGHT) NOTHING BUT ITS CERTIFIED THAT THE DATE IS CORRECT, AND IT'S A MORGAN DOLLAR. IN ALL MY YEARS (A BUNCH) I'VE NEVER SEEN A GRADE COIN WITHOUT A GRADE. I know of 3 different types of ungraded slabs PCGS and NGC issue. First off, there are sample slabs. Both companies also issue grades like "BU". They do this for large lots at a reduced price. Thirdly, PCGS has a new service where they will authenticate a problematic (cleaned, damaged, etc.) coin.

 

I think ebay should ban these people,its fraud anyway you look at it

I have been encouraged by SGS to promote them, so I will, SGS is a wonderful grading service, and with them, you know it's authentic.

 

SGS does not guarantee authenticity, they are nothing more than one of a myriad of self-slabbers are are notorious for grossly overgraded coins.

IMO...Let us not omit GEC from the list of "Don't buy here slabers". Years ago I bought a 2007 ASE (in 2006) in MS 70 grade that had a scrape across one of the suns rays. It was so obvious that it couldn't have been a mistake.

Remember, GEC = BAD deal.
