I was lookimg on eBay today and seems like NGC 69 graded sets are selling in the $150's. This is close to mint issue price including shipping.
I received my 2 sets last week from the mint. The coins looked very pretty but I just couldnt stand the smell of the case that came with the coin. Would it give off some chemicals that are bad for the coin?
I think that some people look at the 69 graded silver eagles as low graded coins when in fact they are very nice coins sold very cheap compared to the 70 graded eagles. I have bought and sold 70 graded silver eagles and I personally can't see spending the high premium on these super graded silver eagles as they have become a fairly normal grade. It's sad to spend big money on a 70 graded silver eagle only to see it develop a milk spot or some other small imperfection dropping it out of the 70 grade , for me I like the 69 graded silver eagles or the OGP.
I think I'm going to send mine back and see what happens when I ask for an exchange. I noticed a little cloudiness in the right field obverse on the enhanced coin. When I put it under my stereo microscope, it shows up plainly. I hate to do it because my reverse proof is probably a PF70. However, it would bother me knowing the enhanced coin has this surface problem. If the exchange is bad, I'll request a refund and forget about it. Maybe I can get lucky.
Yeah the smell was powerful. I took my coins out and let the box sit out for a week or so and the smell did diminish. Whether it will harm the coins I don't know. All my coins, in the capsules only, go to the SDB and the packaging goes in a box in the closet.
I liked the coins so much that I bought another Enhanced Uncirculated coin today to sell in early 2014. I think that once the rest of the world sees these coins, the NEW "it" coin will be these EU coins. They will replace the RP coins on the wish lists of thousands.
Modern Coin Mart is offering 2013W Reverse Proof 69 NGC Black Core coins @ $69 with free shipping, I just bought two. This is a good price on the Black Core NGC Reverse Proof Silver Eagle. You can get them for as low as $67.28 for a wire transfer but I think to do that you would need to spend $1000 as this is the minimum wire transfer allowed. They are also offering the NGC Blue Label Early Release @ $69
well I pulled the trigger on the MCM deal. I haven't had any of my ASE anniversary sets graded nor have I seen any in person so I will use it as an example to grade mine against. May be spitting in the wind but I will chock it up as a learning experience.
I have been buying just the Reverse proof in the 69 grade for around $69 to $75 which in my mind is just cheap for an RP. At this price I think that there is some upside plus the adjusted final mintage figures are not in yet. The RP in the Retro Black Holder just "POPS", it be funny if the 2013W Reverse Proof ends up being the lowest "W" mintmarked in this series.
I am not a big fan of the Enhanced Silver Eagle at all ! I don't plan on buying any but that's just me, I like the RP.
