Thanks, Insider. I'll probably crack it out and give it the old acetone soak. I agree, on the Trade Dollar typology I would like to see the obv/rev types as well for instance I think the 1876-CC type1/1 form a natural trio: DDR,small wide cc, and unbroken letters rev.
I use an old Nikon D40 camera,with a manual Micro-Nikkor 105mm lens, a solid copy stand and 2 daylight bulbs. Soon I will try using 4 LED lights on goosenecks.
Almost think they were a little hard on your coin Doc. From a technical standpoint it’s a 50 all day. But there’s weak luster so I think that was their viewpoint but for a scarce variety and good surface it’s a winner. I think a45 cac. Which I think it’d do unless Theresa surface issues I don’t sees is as good as a 50
OK, so I cracked the coin out for a little in home conservation. Soaked in acetone for about 4 hrs, some of the deposits lost the green color, others did not . Soaked a few more hours and and after removing and rinsing quickly in hot water, some of the green stuff was gone but the rest was easily removed with a toothpick. Final result:
