Bought $200 in dollars, got about half way threw them and found this. Legit? Hold any value?

This is the missing space where the last star should be.

Probably slipped edge lettering. It is definitely worth holding onto. I'm not sure how much it's worth though.

    Cool thanks for your reply.

Does anyone else have some input?

Is it actually missing a star or has an extra star? Or is the spacing of the stars just off?

Well its kinda weird the 10th star should be between the 9th star and 2009 D. Instead, it was struck between the 4th and 5th star. So there is still the normal amount of stars. I hope that makes sense hard to explain ha.

Trying to figure out how this exactly happened..weird

The coin slipped in the edging machine making stars 4, 5, and 6 close together. Somewhere else on the edge (Usually directly opposite the closely spaced features) you will find a blank space that is wider than it is supposed to be. Slippage on the edges of the small dollars is not that unusual. If you take a stack of them and try to set them so that all the edge letters are lined up you will probably find several examples of slippage in varying amounts.

Thanks for your input. Have any idea how much its worth? Can't find anything on Google.

Value is minimal. As I mentioned such slippage is pretty common and has been happening on the lettered edge dollars since 2007. I would doubt if it is worth more than a dollar or two.

    Bump...

Does anyone else have any input?

Took it to a coin shop and was talking to this older guy (known as the 'error' man) and he sounded quite intrigued.
He's never seen anything like it so he told me to post on a website and ask about it. I think he told me to check out pcgs and post on there. Can't remember though.

You could probably get 20 bucks for it on eBay. The slippage does have nice eye appeal, since the 2 stars are evenly spaced.

I would hold on to it. I was looking through Ken Potter's "Strike it Rich with Pocket Change 2" and he has similar dollars listed but no info for value. It would be hard to tell right now what the value is based on this. I am sure in the future there will be prices listed. And what I mean by similar is dollars that were improperly minted on the edges. I did not see your particular variety, but I am sure there will be more. You should contact him for info.

Heck, I'd give him three bucks for it just to have it!

Thanks for the replies! I knew this had to be worth more than a dollar or two..

What's interesting is when I found the coin about 4 months ago, I did some Google searching and came up with nothing. Just recently I searched again, and someone else seems to have a ZT with the "star slippage". (I'm only assuming its identical to mine). Also isn't that a somewhat good thing if a few identical coins are found? Correct me if I'm wrong, but it should create a demand for this coin I'm guessing.

Also thanks for the tip to contact Ken about this, going to do that just need a couple better pictures :)
