I like this 1892 columbian commemorative half dollar, it has some nice toning... But I know they are not very valuable unless it is a mint state coin. I got this coin very cheap so I would only be about $70 into this coin including grading fees if I sent it in.... I really only want to send it in if it will get a mint state grade. I am not the best at guessing grades so figured I would look for some advice here if it might be worth sending in. Thanks!
I say don't do it. Columbian Exposition half dollars are all too common and this one is just not going to be worth it afterward. I think the toning on this one is a net negative. You'd have to get a 64 or better to make it worth it and this coin just won't get there. Could be AU or low MS. That being said, you could send it in, but don't do it alone. Get AT LEAST 5 coins to submit first if you are a member or find someone to send it in on your behalf with their submission.
Its a personal choice in my opinion. If it makes you feel better and money isn't too much of an issue than I say go for it. I have several No grades and lower MS grades in holders and I feel better that their slabbed, protected and given a Genuine grade. Just remember. Sending it to ANACS would be your best bet for grading this though because of their competitive fees. Just my Personal opinion. Good Luck. .
I don’t think it is worth grading it. It is a nice coin, but to me, it is mid level AU. It doesn’t justify the expense of getting it slabbed. They are common in that grade.
Not worth the cost, it's not a high grade and truly not worth spending anymore money on it. Maybe just buy a generic slab and slab it yourself!
It’s not worth it. Today certification costs a small fortune. It’s not only the grading fees. It’s also the shipping both ways and the forever wait for economy priced service.
