it seems like all the coin shops I find are always closing at either 5 or 6 o'clock and never later....why can't coin shops ever stay open later like normal stores, is there a specific reason? I know there are people on this forum who either own or work at coin shops, or are friendly with the owners of said establishments, so does anyone here know why it seems like these places always close so early like a bank does? It makes it hard for me to buy coins when I get off at six and want to stop on my way home like tonight.
Usually coin shops are mom and pop establishments, They work 9-5 so they can get home before Wheel of Fortune starts. It would be awesome if they had a nationwide chain of coin stores.
I often wonder how someone visits a 9-5 store of any kind when most people work 9-5 themselves. On the infrequent chance I am driving around during the day, I also often wonder why there are so many people out-and-about. Why aren't they at work?
My local shop is only open Wednesday thru Saturday 10-3! Personally, I'd venture a guess that most of his business comes from older, retired folks and jobless people looking to sell what they have to make a quick buck so they can pay their bills. But that guess comes from knowledge of the area where I live, average income, unemployment rate, etc.
Because there is alot more to running your own business than hanging an open sign, I bet most coin shop owners keep the front open till 5 but dont go home till much later.
yeah I was thinking that it must be because alot of these shops do not have large staffs and are manned by a few dedicated individuals.......still, I find it hard to go alot of times because I work M-F 9-6 and alot of shops are closed after six and on weekends.....aaagh, oh well at least feebay is still there late at night for me to feed my addiction.
I agree with the OP. Many working people cannot make it to a coin shop during regular 8am-5pm business hours. The local coin shops in my area all seem to open at 10am and close at 4pm. I would think that would cost them a lot of business from collectors with jobs but that it is their choice I guess.
Me too. They could be working different shifts or be unemployed, on disability, or just set for life I guess.
Mine is open till 6 and is about 5 min away from my work. Sometimes I stop by after work because its real convenient.
Find a local dealer willing to work with you on your schedule. This complaint is not that uncommon, so unless your area is quite small, there likely are non B&Ms that would be happy to have your business as long as you're not looking for nickel and dime material.
I hate how most stores don't open early anymore. The local mall does not open until 10am, and 11am on Sundays.
you are lucky, most are not open so late.....maybe I will look into talking to them like was suggested here, and convincing them to wait an extra half hour for me every now and then so I could make some purchases....
Some people do not get out of bed until 10am or leave the house until the afternoon, so there is no reason for certain stores to be open earlier.
Pilkenton: Lets forget about the chains. You don't negotiate price with a chain store like you do with a local coin store. You find very few chain store employee's with product knowledge and they don't like employee's standing around all night talking to one customer. Having a discussion for discussion's sake is not encouraged. As it is, security and shoplifting is a bigger issue with them and additional security is needed because of internal theft as well. They want you in and out, not hanging around "just looking" for an hour or so. I don't even want to think what would happen to the buying and selling side of the business. You would find corporate buyers running around with deep pockets at shows, conventions and all the auctions. They would obscure individuals like us, from getting much attention when buying just one or two items for ourselves. The down side is just to great.
That's what I was thinking. I remember he couldn't hand in his resume to a pawn shop in the morning because he wasn't up.
