Well, it rolls into town in just 1 week! I, myself, am from Huntington Beach, CA which is located just one city below Long Beach, CA. I visit this particular show nearly ever time it is in town (3 times a year). I've got a few things in mind that I may pick up from the show. Some being a 1921 HR Peace Dollar MS63 PCGS or NCG, or possibly an 1883-CC or 1884-CC Morgan Dollar MS63DMPL PCGS or NGC. I have not yet decided which to get. I've seen a couple of each on the Heritage Auction House website that will be featured at the show but havn't really seen one that "tickles my fancy". I'll probably pick up a few common date Barber Quarters to fill those gosh darn holes in my album as well. But who knows, I may walk out the door that day with more coins than I would have liked to purchase or I may walk out with nothing! You never really know when it comes to such a large show like the Long Beach Expo where there is such a wide variety to choose from. I am, like I'm sure many others are to, basically going for the joy of the show and to admire the rarities that may arrive at this year's show. What are some coins you CoinTalkers plan to pick up? You just going there to browse and possibly buy a coin that you had not previously planned to buy at a good price? Please Share With Me , Brian
I'm ready for the show!!! Nothing specific on my buy list, but if I happen to stumble across something I really like then I'm in! Going to the Goldberg pre-Long Beach auction lot viewing this weekend and will check out the Heritage lots as well. Maybe I'll find something good. I always like looking at the big dollar rarities in the auctions as well. It's so much fun to hold the $100k and up coins in hand and check them out!! At the last Goldberg lot viewing I got to hold some really huge gold bars (100+ ounces) which was really fun. At the show I like to check out the rarities and the coin displays as well. One of the coolest things that many people miss out on is the collector display area over by the Long Beach Coin Club table, near the coin supplies dealers in the back. At the February show I displayed my 1908-S Indian Cent Grading Set (32 coins) and was really pleased that many people got to see the coins in person. I'm working on another display for this upcoming show that I think will be cool for others to see as well as educational. All forum members going to the show are welcome to check it out and if you can track me down at the show I'd be happy to open up the case and let you see some of the coins up close if you like.
It does sound like you're ready! Maybe I'll see you there . Just look for the "kid". You see, I'm only 15 years old. I am not quite sure yet if I'll be entering any of the floor auction rooms but if just so happens that I see the opportunity to purchase a coin I like for decent price, I might sit down to watch and possibly participate in a bid or two. I'll probably spend the majority of the show on the actual show floor searching for those coins I mentioned, even though I may have better luck in a Heritage, Stacks-Bowers, or Goldberg auction room I find the show floor is where I usually find most of the coins I end up purchasing in the end. Besides, I do not like to deal with the buyer's 15% fee. I've also been brushing up on some Cherrypickers' Guide varieties for a little bit of fun to see what interesting varieties I may find on the show floor (Washington Quarters in particular). Knowing my luck, I won't stumble across even the the most common varieties where nearly 2/3's of a certain date minted are that variety, Hahaha! -Brian
There's only a couple of us going to the show??? Come on, who else is coming??? The show is in a few days!!!!
I usually don't miss the Long Beach show, but I have a family vacation that according to my wife, is more important.
thanks! i dont know if you got my PM but I am "Taylorcoincollector" from youtube! I hope you have a good time here brian!
I'm about 90% done putting together my collector display for the Long Beach show, less than a week to go!!!! Hope many of you get to see my display and the displays of other collectors... Not telling exactly what my display is, but here's a hint... maybe some of you will figure it out:
Mint State RPM's and OMM's on Wheat Cents? I'm thinking more like 40's and 50's dates, PennyLady. But it's still possible that you're correct. I just didn't think there were too many varieties for 09-S Lincoln Cents. The ones I know of are the 09-S/S and the 09-S/Horiz. S. Are there more I should be informed about? DDO's? DDR's? I've only got the Volume 2 CPG. Haha! Maybe that's another thing to pick up from the show; Cherrypickers' Guide Vol. 1. PennyLady, if I don't have it in hand when I go to greet you, PLEASE REMIND ME...I most likely have forgotten by that point! Hahaha. -Brian -Brian
Sounds fantastic! I'll try to fill a slot between my arrival and my departure to stop by and greet you, but I cannot guarantee anything . -Brian
You're 2/3 of the way there That last pic of a 1909-S I posted doesn't really look like an IHC or a Lincoln, does it??
Hmmm, interesting. Not an IHC or a Lincoln. Is it foreign? Canadian in particular. Wait, but those denticles look familiar and I am trying to figure out would that mark above the mintmark may be. It's probably a digit in the date. I just can't put my finger on it. -Brian
