Whitman books missing S slots

Hi All - I just got back into collecting after 20 years or so away, and have a question that you probably get a lot, so I apologize. I did a search of the forums, but didn't see it asked previously.

Why do the blue Whitman folders for Jefferson Nickels not include slots for all the "S" mint marks? For example, 2000-S, 1998-S, 1997-S and 1996-S Jefferson Nickels are available at Littleton, but there are no slots for these available in the Whitman Jefferson Nickel Collection #3 folder.

I sent a note to Whitman asking why, but I guess the bigger question is - how do you all handle this? Do I have to buy all new folders from a different company, if I truly want ALL Jefferson Nickels in my collection? Or does a 'complete Jefferson Nickel collection' typically not include those that are harder to find, like S mint marks?

    Thanks!
    Tom

I would guess that the album is aimed at circulation coins, rather than proof-only issues.

What David said. I'm not sure you should buy your coins from littleton, by the way. They are mad overpriced.

Agree re: littleton - I noticed that also, and have been able to find much lower prices elsewhere. I was just using them as a baseline to see what was issued each year.

Maybe I'll just be happy collecting all the circulation coins for now. I can always go back and supplement with proof coins.

Thanks, both of you, for the feedback!

I'd agree 100% on that one. However, it's strange this comes up. I recently started a '32-'98 Washie Dansco...all from mint or proof sets (or cheap NGC/PCGS coins...MS63, MS64.....but some will have to be AU, and the '32 D&S in lower grade), but my album has slots for both the '79-S Type 1 AND Type 2...for '81, it doesn't have a slot for the Type 2, and simply reads "'81-S". Strange.

As for Littleton, don't. They'll just keep sending coins you won't want, you'll lose track, pay shipping, get billed after you lose track.....etc.....

If you just want a reference for years of mintage, use a pricing website like http://www.numismedia.com.

Your book does not include proofs.

Are you using a "folder" or an "album"?
I would NEVER put proofs in a folder.
No folders that I know of have holes for proofs.

If you are using an album, then it could go either way.
Some have holes for proofs, some don't.
    Sounds like your's doesn't.

It might be because most people just don't really want to collect finger printed Deep Cameo coins.
