    Hey guys,

I was wondering where you can get $2 American bills? I did some researching and apparently you can't buy bills directly from the Federal Reserve, like you can buy coins on the US Mint website. eBay seems to be way too marked up (I'm not paying $5 for a $2 bill..)

Shouldn't there be some place you can order them from without paying too much over their face value?

    Thanks friends,
    Andrew

Yeah, check your local bank(s). They certainly won't always have them, but you'll generally hit enough to get what you want.

    Good luck,

All the different banks I go to locally have them pretty regularly. They aren't rare and usually in good condition from lack of circulation.

talk to the head teller at your local bank,i had mine order from the fed res and got $200 in $2's in order brand new. i did it again and they were circulated ones.i use them all the time. it's fun to see the look on peoples faces.

Around here i check the bank durring the week of chinese new year.
The bank orders fresh packs from the BEP to fill reqests from customers who give cash as gifts.
Of course this only works if your bank has a lot of asian customers.

Most banks can order $2 bills by the 100 at face value and most tellers will exchange any loose $2 bills from their drawer for ones, fives or tens. Also any half dollars as they are a nuisance to a bank teller.

Go to the bank. They are always willing to give em up. Just did it yesterday. Got $50 worth.

I'm curious as to why people collect the 2 dollar bills. They don't get circulated much and no one seems to care about them. What's the interest all about? Just curious.

For me, it’s probably because of the odd denomination and the fact that the $2 is almost never seen in circulation, which gives it the perception of being scarce (which it isn't)

I bet that accounts for a lot of the interest in the 2 dollar bill Silver. I don't collect paper money myself but it sure would be a lot lighter to lift the old collection if I did. Maybe as I get older, I'll switch over just to give my poor old back a break.

1986 and 87 when I lived in Oregon they used the 2 dollar bills as you 1's 5's or 10's....always such a pain, didn't have regular spot in the cash registers for them so they usually got buried under the other bills

As far as the older red seal $2 ,those you have to buy and they go for $10-$12 each.(or higher) for the 1963,1953 series in unc
People on E-bay and elsewhere sell packs and singles of the 76,95. and 03 series but i personaly wouldn't pay the premium, try the bank.
Last year i scored 2 fresh, consecutive 100 note packs of the 2003 $2 from the bank, the same ones people sell on E-bay for a nice little profit..( around $240 for $200 face value)

I like the $2 bill. Of all of the bills in circulation, it's got the most beautiful design on the back... a piece of art rather than a rendering of a building. It's more useful than a $1 bill is. You can't even buy a bottle of water for under a buck anymore. I never make exact change... I want to check the coins. So if I want a drink, why would I want to pull two $1 bills out to pay for it if I can just pull one $2 bill?

I was at the bank on Saturday and asked if they had any $2 bills... first time I've bothered asking. The teller said, very obviously annoyed by it, that she had hundreds... someone had just come in and cashed a bunch in. I was on a half dollar hunt that day, but she assured me that they would be around for quite some time. I grabbed a few anyway. Series '76 with not even a wallet fold. Thinking of grabbing them all to see if there's any goodies in there and spending the rest.

My son just went to a friends Bat Mitzvah and of course the traditional gift is money. He wanted to give her about $25 in an interesting way so he gave her 13 $2 bills. Now 26 dollars is an unusual amount of money to receive as a gift but when giving two dollar bills you are sort of limited to the even amounts. This is the only downside to the two dollar bill that I have found so far.

From what I remeber, the local strip club here paid all of its bar change and door change in $@ bills for better tips for the girls. Not that I was a frequent flyer there lol

Check out this article linked to from the Coinflation site. The $2 bill is coming back. For SapperNurse... Here is a quote from the article.

"One group that has embraced the note is the exotic dancing industry. Strip clubs hand out $2 bills when they give customers their change and the bills end up in dancers' garters and bartenders' tip jars.

"The entertainers love it because it doubles their tip money," said Angelina Spencer, a former stripper and the current executive director of the Association of Club Executives, an adult nightclub trade group representing some 1,000 members."
