What’s the deal with all these wheat penny or older rolls with a silver dime ender being sold on eBay? There are a bunch of them. They are supposed to be unsearched but how would one come across so many rolls like this? I mean I can believe that those rolls exist, but how is it that a seller would have 100s to sell?

Umm, how did the dime get in there? An unscrupulous seller placed it there to cover up a junk roll of common date cents.

    Don't even bother.

They want the novice to think someone turned them in to the bank that way. They are completely searched and you get one of those dimes. The dimes always have a mint mark or a rare date showing. Wow, you might get a 94 S or a 16 D. A big scam. All rolls on eBay have been searched.

Or maybe they want you to think that is the way they came from the mint.

There is no such thing as unsearched rolls, unless they are new. It's actually fairly easy to slip a coin, especially a dime, into the end of a roll of Cents. It's not worth the risk and it's not worth the money you pay out.

It's really quite simple. They have access to a counter/rolling machine. You set it for rolling cents and load the paper. Toss in a dime. Wait a moment and toss in 49 wheat cents. Out drops a roll with a dime at the end.

They do buddie. They really do as the seller rolls them.
This seller I have seen but never bought from them. I would say if you can them for $5 tops each it's "ok" but they want $4 for shipping.
Don't let your curiosity get the better of you, avoid this seller..

If they know it's a roll of cents and Wheat Cents to boot, and there is a Barber Dime on the end of the roll, how do they not know what's in that roll?

It's really quite simple and totally on the up and up.

Mike and Ray buy a bag of 5,000 wheat cents. The seller already took out any good coins, but Mike and Ray can truthfully say they are unsearched (by me).

Mike & Ray separate them out by date and mintmark and pull out the semi-keys that the previous seller seeded the bag with.

Mike and Ray add a few nicer date coins to the pile and then Mike rolls half and Ray rolls half.

    Mike and Ray trade rolls.

Now both Mike and Ray can truthfully say they have no idea what is in the rolls.

I have $100 in 1982 cents that I've never searched. I bought them in 1982 so I've had them for 38 years. I also have over 10,000 Wheat Cents that I've never searched. I've had them over 45 years. Are they unsearched? No, but I haven't searched them so can I call them unsearched? Yes I can because I haven't searched them.

Too much work. You just buy the bag of 5,000 wheats, roll them with the dime on the end and sell them to the suckers, No need to go through the bag as the chance of anything good being in there (other than possibly a few seeded better pieces, no keys) is VERY unlikely. So you can do that and honestly say you have no idea what is in the rolls. It saves time and effort, and if by some miracle someone does find something they will most likely crow about it in feedback which will increase the number of suckers coming to buy your rolls. You may lose a little on that one coin, but you will more than make it up from starry eyed treasurehunting dreamers.
