Is the proper term for someone who collects paper money a numismatist? Is there another term for a paper money collector? Other than my wife calling me a "fat Bast**D"...

I call that category of numismatists "paper money collectors". But then, what do I know?

I actually answered my own question... Isn't the internet wonderful! I found out that the term for someone who collects paper money, or more specifically a numismatist who collects paper money is called a notaphilist. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notaphily

...My wifes comment on the last note I bought "You spent $6.00 for a bill that only is worth $0.75? You know, most people try and make money at this hobby"

I don't think she gets it...

Finally I'm not just a coin collector that does currency too - I'm a notaphilist!

Thank God my wife understands. She's actually located some pretty good stuff for me in the past.

My wife has been much more supportive since I found several hundred Washington Dollars with missing edge inscriptions.

My wife have no problem with my banknote collecting. In fact, she know that I make money from banknotes. Naturally, she approved my 20+ years old hobby.

i bought a 1935 $1 silver certificate CU for $4, and this is what my brother said "you spend $4 for a dollar?" sold it a couple months later for $10. some people just don't get it. now if i knew someone who had a $1 1935 silver certificate CU and offered them $10, they would say its gotta be worth more than that! but if i buy it from someone else, they would say you spent $4 for a dollar. i just don't get it.:headbang:

Kinda like coin collecting now isn't it? You spent $5 for a nickel?

How is it only worth $.75? Is it a fractional??
And as for the 'most people... make money' in those cases for them .. it isn't a hobby .. it's a second job. If you have to make money at 'this', then you'll need to expand your hobby to .. coin collecting :) Everyone deserves SOME fun... not everythhing in life has to have an ROI (return on investment) does it?

FYI....Fractionals were not printed in the 75 cent denomination. They were 3,5,10,15,25 and 50 cent notes.
Must have been some other note well worn...

Actually, it was a note from Cambodia, and after figuring in the exchange rate, it came out to be worth about $0.79 cents US, I think.... I never can really figure out those currency calculators...
