What are some reputable U.S. coin mail order dealers?

I'm sure it's second nature to you, just like ancient coins are second nature to me. But this would be helpful for U.S. newbies. What are some reputable U.S. dealers, large or small, that offer mail order?

It's just really frustrating, not being able to get what I want (not that rare), and I don't know where to go. There doesn't seem to be a U.S. version of vcoins. Oh, I'm sure I could call up HJB or somewhere like that, but that'd be much more expensive.

My only U.S. coin purchase disappeared in the mail. I would have been satistfied with that coin and left it at that, but it's frustrating. I'd like to perhaps get a nicely toned Morgan (pre-1895). Mint doesn't matter. The toning does. I'd like a nice-looking coin that isn't too expensive (say below $150).

Vcoins offers very few U.S. coins and the guy who has by far the best ones was the one where it disappeared. He seemed quite honest and I don't think it had anything to do with him. I just mentioned that because I don't think he wanted to be bothered with trying again. I had chosen an almost as good example some months later, but I received no reply to my email (I would have had to, in order to avoid priority or registered).

I also tried ma-shops, albeit not recently.

I'd like to avoid priority mail, if possible, and go first class. There's a picture of the disappeared one, just to show what I'm looking for. I'm looking for some iridescence, especially on the obverse.

And I never thought these words would come out of my mouth, but a slabbed example is probably best. The raw Morgan I had quickly and violently toned.

    It's very frustrating. It'd be a decent drive to a semi-promising LCS.

I really like the monster toners, but that's probably fake toning, and they're quite pricey. There's also no guarantee that it would stay like that. Per ancients, that stage is somewhat temporary, although a Magnus Maximus in a flip from the 1990's is still the same.

RCNH is a little more high end, but bargains can be found. Mint Products is good if you want 'moderns' and supplies.

Ok, I'm basically just looking for a Morgan toned to my liking.

It seems like there are tons of reputable dealers with online stores to choose from. I have used David Lawrence and L&C Coins in the past.

I haven’t bought from them recently but they are a good outfit. I’ve never had a problem with them.

L & C Coins is also good but a little higher priced. Never had a problem with them either.

I use northeastcoin.com a lot. They have a decent inventory and offer great service. I've also used David Lawrence, and Alex Perakis for currency.

Is Priority Mail the default mailing option for most of these? With some of the smaller ones,I could probably ask for First Class.

With the packaging, if it’s 13 ounces and under it can ship first class. Anything over 13 ounces and it’s priority mail or parcel post.

I had a really heavy, and really expensive (c. $25) from Dirtyoldcoins, a couple of years ago. I believe it was First Class (it wasn't Priority).

Would an average Morgan coin in a slab be over 13 oz, shipped? Do they usually use the big envelopes (uh-oh) or bubble mailers?

A typical single slabbed coin shipped in a bubble mailer with a protective adhesive foam layer around it (how I typically ship coins like that to help disguise the shape of the slab) will weigh less than 3 oz, so it can easily be shipped via USPS First Class. Cost will be somewhere between $4-6 depending on where it's going and where you buy the label.

Probably under but it depends on how much paper or bubble wrapping is used. A would think a bubble mailer would be fine if taped well.

I also think you should check out the auctions at Great Collections. Right now Great Collections might be the best collector to collector sales option out there. They also have buy it now options but i have never used that option so don't know a lot about it. Either way I wish you luck in your collecting experience. James

Thanks to the Members of this great forum, my own search/purchase results as well as down home brick front (Golden "The Bank" Eagle in Laurel) and online sources I've formulated a broad-spectrum list which I peruse regularly...for different targets. daily coin stop.JPG

Golden Eagle in Laurel Maryland seems a Morgan Dollar Specialist. I've purchased most of my lower grade Morgan CC/Keys from them (and tons more other stuff). They've been posting toned Morgans in their recent Newly Added category...then those Dollars are shifted to the Certified Morgans Page.
