Just for those who are interested, John Wexler has added 49 new doubled die listings, many of them cents and 1 WRPM. This, just on March 25th. There's always something new going on and something new to be found. I hope to be adding 1 additional as soon as I can get some into the mail. Mine is one with sharp doubling on one of the columns on the 2009 P Professional Life cents. Another is a 1984 cent with hub doubling at Liberty. No photos just yet as I want to confirm them first. Check out the new ones on the first page. www.doubleddie.com.
You are so correct Tommy ,I posted an IHC that's a new variety and now waiting for the attribution credit.
John Wexler, Ken Potter and Coneca are three I know of that do doubled die coins. Brian Ribar does nickels exclusively. Wexler does not do nickels. There are others. Wexler assigns his own numbering system starting with a "W" such as WDDR-001. He then breaks them down by die stages, such as WDDR-001A,B,C, etc. Robert (Bob) Neff does Trail Dies and Die Clashes.
CONECA and James Wiles is a good place for sending new stuff, too. If you're into die varieties CONECA is an excellent organization to be a member of.
So I heard from a very reputable source (no, no one on this site) that the Mint is going to borrow from the NCAA's acceptance of the "One & Done" philosophy: They developed the technology to make a one time use die ("One & Done"), & the ability to tweak each one "just a little". The test run will be the entire 4,723,562,001 Philadelphia cent mintage for 2019. This will result in 4,723,562,001 die varieties. They recognize this will essentially eliminate the existence of the worn die "errors", but they figure the additional varieties will help spark an interest in Zincolns for new collectors. While they are cognizant of the fact that each coin will be unique unto itself, they are apparently not concerned that someone may try to hoard the entire run. They are also toying with the idea of tweaking the metal content on some of the run, to change the cent colors, so as to (as they succinctly put it) "screw with those old timey collectors". It is so!!!!
The post office screwed with the old time collectors. Before they started corner block collectors gathered 4 % of their production which was purchased and never had to be redeemed. They got the bright idea to make twenty stamp corner blocks only. They thought that would boost their unearned profits by 500%. Instead almost every person quit collecting corner blocks and nearly all previously sold corner blocks have been sold as discount postage and are now being redeemed at full face value by the post office. I'm sure the bright idiot who destroyed their business model got a huge bonus. Now the Post Office is nearly bankrupt.
@harley bissell And let's not forget Coil Line Pairs, numbered coils in strips of three, Arrow Blocks, Blocks with the little "Zippy" character, tagged and untagged, die cut vs. Perforated cut of the same issue, denominated and non denominated of the same issue. And the year I stopped collecting when they made a gazillion Elvis stamps that were hoarded. And sooo much more.
For IHC Russ B.B.Doughty he is also a member here, as is Messydesk for Morgans. You can PM them and I'm sure they will give you contact information for having a coin attribution
preaching to the choir sir. I talked about what even non collectors could visualize. I refuse to purchase any non-circulating product of the u s mint but they still manage to rape collectors for proof sets that are nearly always cheaper several years later. Bullion comes in many forms. Paying huge premium over melt is a non-start for me.
That's good tongue in cheek but then it would be so easy to counterfeit them from electrical knockouts, that even people here could do it.
Funny you mention that. I had something I thought was a token. It said "Steel City" on it. It was a knockout.
Yeah. I call that chasing bad money. This will get way out of control. We will be finding a variety on record fo every coin in our purses
I have an 1889 Morgan that I think might be a new discovery. How do I get intouch with Dr. John Wexler?
I am sorry if you sent me a message I lost it.I think I have a new discovery. How do I get in touch with Dr. John Wexler. Also, What site can I go on to chat about new discoveries?
Hi, what sites have you used to ascertain a possible new variety. Maybe you can post images of your coin here as there are many Morgan collectors on this forum.
