So I've been digging into my secret stash of coins and came across this Victoria crown. At first I was like ok this one is good but after looking at it harder my alarm bells are ringing because man this coin looks new. The more I look at it the harder it is for me to believe this coin has been around for over 100 years and still looks like this. Can anyone tell me if there is a way to tell? My scale said it weighs 28.4 and krause says it should weigh 28.276 but my scale might be rounding up a 1/10th of a gram so I'm a little stumped. Can you guys tell me what you think, thanks.

first it has the look of a coin that has been cleaned, or processed In the world of coin collecting you have to remember one thing , "research is key, detecting counterfeits a must, and education is a must" kaosleeroy108 The Mahayana Tea Shop & hobby center no more collecting , sorry children are more important but I will get my diploma and start the hobby center.. kaosleeroy108, 8 minutes ago Edit Report #2 + Quote Reply kaosleeroy108 The Mahayana Tea Shop & hobby center the over scratched surface and the over polishing give it away use a magnet to see if it sticks
OK just tried a fridge magnet on it and it didn't stick. Also tried the magnet on other known real silver coins and those didn't stick either so I'm guessing a fake one would've stuck? My magnet is kinda cheesy so I'm not sure if it was the best for the job though. So what do ya think, its a real coin that has been cleaned? And what would one say it was worth if it is a real coin that has been cleaned?

It looks ok but has been polished. It should not weigh more than is stated in the catalog. Buy a rare earth magnet, place the coin at 45 degrees and the magnet should slide off slowly, if its fake the magnet will slide off fast. See these demo`s
Understood about the weight that was the first thing I thought to check for. My scale doesn't weigh down to 3 decimal points so I think the 28.4 that it said was close enough to say it could be real and thanks for that magnet tip, good to know.
