Been trying to find a decent Vespasian Denaius for the last few months. So when I saw this one on an auction at a low, low bid I put in a bid. I didn't think I would get it at such a low bid come hammer time I didn't even go back to check. When I got an email that the auction successfully ended I was shocked. Anyway just wanted to share my bargain basement find and that I finally found one, even if it is a little worn. Vespasian, Denarius IR, 18mm, 2.8g, 75 AD IMP CAES VESP AVG CEN: Laureate hear right PONTIF MAXIM: Vespasian seated right holding scepter and branch RIC 545 Feel free to post yours.

I'very tried and failed but not given up on one like Bings Pax reverse. Ya know @Pishpash I'm not going to limit a thread to just denarius and definitely not bound to a condition. Share any of them you want.
OK, my favourite Vespasian Vespasian (Augustus) Coin: Bronze As IMP CAES VESPASIAN AVG COS III - Laureate head right. AEQVITAS AVGVSTI - Around SC Mint: Rome (AD 71) Wt./Size/Axis: 10.60g / 27mm / - References: RIC II 482, p. 73 Edit: It's an As, failing memory said it was a Sesterius - apologies!
Nice example! This is a fairly common reverse type from 73 AD which pays tribute to the 'Tribute Penny' reverse struck by Tiberius. Your coin is most likely RIC 546 (CENS), the most common legend variant of the type. But it would be hard to tell for certain since your reverse legend is worn at the crucial attribution spot. Only a die match with another specimen with full legends would determine it for sure. FWIW, it's very similar to my RIC 546. Vespasian AR Denarius, 3.50g Rome mint, 73 AD RIC 546 (C3), BMC 98, RSC 387 Obv: IMP CAES VESP AVG CENS; Head of Vespasian, laureate, r. Rev: PONTIF MAXIM; Vespasian, togate, seated r., feet on stool, holding vertical sceptre in r. hand and branch in l. Regardless, it's nice to see you got one!
I just took a pic of one that I mentioned to David about a few weeks ago, like yours Smojo it has some wear, Vespasian Denarius 79 AD, 2.6gm, Sear 2308.
There are many very worn denarii of Vespasian since the silver content then was still good enough to make them soft but not so good that they got pulled out circulation before they had time to wear. That means those of us who can tolerate VG bargain basement coins can find them. Mine has the sons as a reverse.
I have a very worn provincial with both the boys on the reverse. But it is VERY worn. VESPASIAN AE3 OBVERSE: KAICAP OYECΠACIANOC TOMI, laureate head of Vespasian right REVERSE: TITOC KAICAP ΔOMITIANOC KAICAP, confronted busts of Titus (left) and Domitian Struck at Tomis, Moesia Inferior, 69-79AD 3.1g, 17mm RPC II 402
I'll chime in with another Pax seated denarius of Vespasian that has seen some honest wear. Rome mint, AD 70 2.73 gm; 17.7 mm Obv: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG, laureate head, r. Rev: COS ITER TR POT, Pax seated l., holding branch and caduceus. Refs: RIC 10D; Sear 2285; BMCRE 26
Vespasian Denarius I purchased a boxed set of Biblical period coins which includes a Vespasian Denarius. It's the one in the lower right corner of the box.
Congrats @Smojo !!! It's always a great feeling to snag a bargain coin! Cool posts everyone!!! I'll throw in one of my most recent purchases: I'm a little surprised David hasn't responded yet LOL
