So I've had this 93 laying around in my room for a week or so. I had forgotten all about it until tonight. I think I may have found something worth posting for once lol. Anyways as you can see it's gold or gold plated it seems. I thought maybe somehow it was struck over with a Sacajawea or something crazy. So far after looking into it I've found out that in 94 the mint did a 2p British coin and a 300 yr commemorate gold 1694 to 1994 coin. There was a mix up where these coins reverses had gotten mixed up and 500 of these coins we're thought to be sent out this way. It said that the coin was worth around 2500. So I don't understand how if they did them in 1994 did I end up with one from 93. It has the ladies face on the front. That's the red block you see over Lincoln. If you take a light and go down each side of the coin you can see Elizabeth and all the other devices that's supposed to be there. It's almost like looking thru a clear coat varish or something but you can surely tell there is another coin that Lincoln has been stamped over. As the light goes over each letter they light up like fire on front and back. The back however has been hit twice once from each reverse from the initial mix up . If you look you'll notice the big two at the base of the memorial from the 2p coin. At the top you will see the crown floating above the three feathers from the 2p. The coin weighs 2.58 btw. My questions are since it's not even a 94, since it is double denomination, doubled died horribly front and back, it's bacically a mule I believe...correct me on that if I'm wrong. It sounds crazy but if you tilt it while looking at how big the spead is on it's ddo it really seems that I see two big 5's in with the 93!! I don't even understand how that's possible but I tried getting it in one of the pics if you zoom you should see what I mean at least a little bit. There are also weird little purple lines running down the middle of each pillar on the memorial and if you look very closely also letters I can't make out enough to read but can enough to tell you it's lettering. Wow but ya I think that's close to everything I've thought about it so far. Would really like to hear from someone else whom is more familiar with this whole error situation than myself about what the value may be or if it's some kinda trick coin or something lol. Not everyday you realize you have a golden fake American penny that probably supposed to be in another country right now. Or the fact it floated around this long without being found. I think that's mainly due to the fact the coin is dated 93 not 94 so it stayed under the radar. Well thanks for taking the time to read this somewhat crazy sounding post. Any input as long as its positive input will be appreciated
Sorry I forgot to post them but those are the two coins that are on this Lincoln cent. Both reverses and her face a letterings on the obverse. Also if you hold a bright light to the date on the front or on the reverse if you flip it upside down then you along the bottom edge I keep seeing a date. It says either 1983 or 1883 but of all things I can't make it all the way out. Thought it said 1935 at first. I'm fairly certain it's 1983 I'm seeing though
Sorry but.. You are wrong. Your 1993 is a Copper plated zinc Cent with some kind of damage. It's nothing what you think it is.
Just a normal 1993 cent that has seen it's share of damage. I see discoloration and plating blisters but that is about it.
Then why is there a big 2 at the base of the memorial and a crown above it? What are the other makings at the bottom under the memorial? Why is the penny the first golden or gold plated penny I've ever seen or why is it when you look at it up close you can see every bit of wording from the other coins and not stains or dents on the coin. You can actually see then in metal composition form under the layer of skin the Lincoln cent creates....
1 last thing Just think about this.. The 2 Pence is much larger than a US Cent.. that numeral 2 would be much larger than the space underneath the Memorial Building..
I don't see any of those things in the pictures. The color looks like something spilled on it and stained it.
I don`t see any of what you are stating. As for your other info regarding a British £2 coin getting mixed with a British Two Pence In 1994, the Royal Mint issued a 22 carat gold proof version of the £2 commemorative coin for the 300th anniversary of the Bank of England. The wrong obverse (head side) die was used when production commenced; the die used on this coin was the one for the double sovereign. No Two Pence was used, it would not fit, totally different sizes.
Don't worry I figured it out. It's been brass plated if anything I guess and it has the reverse of a dime
Sorry but you apparently haven't even attempted to look for other 3rd party gold plated pennies ... https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2060353.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xgold plated penny.TRS0&_nkw=gold plated penny&_sacat=0
Reverse of a dime? Please explain I see a cent that has suffered environmental damage and discoloration, particularly on the reverse
tl;dr In the future, try and use the occasional line breaks / returns. It makes it more readable. I'd also recommend coming down from your high before writing such a long post.
Knock yourself out, friend. You know, gang, I just can't get over, sometimes, how great this CoinTalk is for getting new collectors into the hobby. What a great job we're doing! I shudder to think where numismatics would be today without CoinTalk...
