I have a 1986 W Liberty $5-00 Pf 70 grade by NGC.Can someone tell me what the US Vault Collection means? My first post on here,so hope I am posting in the right area..Thank you
Hey OldBlue, welcome to the forum. I saw your post earlier this afternoon and tried to do a little research on your question but I came up empty handed. I suspect that this designation is reserved for "modern" commemoratives in perfect (70) grade. On the other hand I could be way off base, so what we need here is a couple o' NGC guys to chime in.
It sounds like this one is a paid pedigree. NGC allows submitters to purchase pedigreed labels. http://www.ngccoin.com/about/consumer_awareness.aspx The name "US Vault Collection" was probably that of the marketer/seller of these coins who submitted them in bulk. Please see the section in blue.
Thanks Paul. Sounds plausible. I couldn't find a dang thing regarding this designation, however, I could find plenty of coins with that designation....:smile
Welcome to CoinTalk OldBlue! In a separate post I asked about these "pedigree labels" and/or "designation labels" and received some good info! To all my question now is: The 1986 W Liberty $5-00 Pf 70 grade by NGC with the US Vault Collection designation - is it worth more than the same coin, same grade, same TPG but no US Vault Collection label? TIA . . . (My opinion is . . . . No!)
I don't think it is worth anymore with that label..I was just curious what that label ment.I think I bought it right..Paid 350.00 for it.Just bought it because it sure looked nice
I always buy just the coin.Usually just buy key coins that are graded, like 09s vdb lincoln or1916D merc. There are many counterfits out there.
Pedigrees can add value to coins and collections. As an example, there could be 1500 additional PR70 DCAM coins all in a standard issue label. When a pedigree label is created, it generally will be a much lower population figure. Maybe as low as 200 -300 population counts. These lower population can become more desirable and carry higher premiums for being part of a perfect coin with lower population.
You bought very well old blue, an OZ of gold is just under 1300 an oz and u bought a very nice collector coin for about 200$ over spot. A perfect graded coin for just over spot is a great deal.
In researching U.S. Coin Valt I found this http://setexasrecord.com/stories/510607862-elderly-customers-sue-coin-company-for-fraud . Very interesting article, I myself own quite a few gold coins with this lable. So if you purchased at a reasonable price you should be just fine.
IMO, "The Vault Collection" is just some made up BS name to market a special label for a coin which is no different than any other of its kind to folks who simply do not know any better. It's made up hype to fool the innocent buyers.
