The mint gives each item a stock number. Something like A25, TA7 or 1P6. I'm looking for a link/list to match the stock numbers to what the item is.
This might be of some help Larry. US Mint product (item) codes. (Updated Sep 2019) — Collectors Universe
The US Mint catalog numbers are generally 4 characters, with the year being the first two of them. E.g. 22DB.
Thanks for the links. It was a big help on the newer items. I like the new numbering system. Now for the older numbers. I quit entering mint items in my Coin Elite software about 2005. I'm working on entering Silver Eagles from 2005 to 2016 from the mint invoices. The invoices give me the stock number but not enough information to nail down the variety. They don't even show what mint made them. There were so many. The software has built in descriptions for everything but I'm down to guessing how to enter them. I hope to find a stock number list with better descriptions that will narrow it down.
Part of the problem is that the mint has used multiple production facilities for the bullion coins without always labeling them with the production site. Sometimes the TPGs think they know (or tea leaf read). Some of the labels are right. Some are wrong. Some make a big deal.out of nothing. "Emergency Production" nonsense...
I found a way to figure out most of them. Some sellers on Ebay give the mint stock number in the listing.
