    help! Just curious what we have, I can’t seem to find anything about it online! Wondering if it is a fake. I’m not very knowledgeable on coins. Any help would be appreciated. 693EC9D5-6A6E-4F86-BE5D-A6AB63C0FAA0.jpeg CC7715C1-AA89-4082-99B8-D6B678C84502.jpeg 693EC9D5-6A6E-4F86-BE5D-A6AB63C0FAA0.jpeg CC7715C1-AA89-4082-99B8-D6B678C84502.jpeg

    Looks like some major die cracks on the obverse. Those lines are 'raised', correct?

    Die Cracks don't form that way.. parallel to each other. I thing it's just PMD - Post Mint Damage.

    Just wondering about the “gold” looking markings on the back, the front just looks like deep scratches

    @ttmonae
    They have Quarters that were plated with silver and gold as a novelty outside the mint...
    Probably you have found one that the plating wore away. They are worthless and are not Mint errors of any kind.

    I Just haven’t seen or been able to find one the internet with only the back items in gold. I’ve seen the gold plated ones. And this one doesn’t look as if the plating was worn off anywhere. Just inquiring is all.

    OK.. But the US Mint did not make it that way.. Just want you to be sure about that.

    @paddyman98 is right. There are many after-market resellers that make all sorts of plated coins to encourage suckers to pay ridiculous prices for them. Your coin is only worth 25c.

    Yes I’m aware of the gold plated coins and what they are. Was only curious where it may have come from as I haven’t seen one like it. Was given to my sister at a store and was curious. Thanks for the information though.

    FWIW, I bought a coffee early one morning at a local 7-Eleven. Since I was a regular, the clerk new me and also that I collected coins. She had a customer earlier who bought a pack of cigarettes with some colorized SQ's, and she asked me if they were worth anything. When I told her they were only worth face value, she sighed in relief. You won't believe how many people just don't know.

    Yes And I imagine a lot of people don’t know, or wouldn’t know until they asked lol I don’t have much knowledge in coins, but have collected some that I like and have given them to my son. I’m sure none of them are worth anything. But he still loves them.

    Are there ever quarters plated in something other than gold? Possibly a white gold or different metal? This quarters color is different than other quarters. It’s much I guess brighter and “whiter” in color. And metal is much more porous than other quarters I can compare it to. That’s kind of why I was asking If there’s possibilty of a “fake” quarter? I can’t do any justice on the detail of the quarter up close due to my phone camera.

    When the State Quarters came out in 1999, the TV hucksters got the bright idea to use any of the clad coins that did not grade MS70 and plate them with gold, silver and even platinum. They sold sets of these coins (and subscriptions for the upcoming years) at ridiculous prices. Ten 1999 P&D SQ's sold for $25 or so, but they were only worth 25c each.

    Nope, there is no reason why any of these coins would be counterfeited. They just aren't worth any more than face value.

    I have to say though that I like the look of the selective plating much more than a simple overall plating. The selective plating requires a little more work but the contrast between the devices and fields is more attractive.
