View attachment 648018 Hey guys! Check out the size of Washington's lower eyelid on this 2000 D VA .25 circulated coin. I can't find any other doubling on obverse but there's a long crack at the bottom of the bust, through designer initials. Obviously this coin is too beat up to be worth anything but at least you'll know this error is out there. I found nothing at Variety Vista about it, same results with an online search. Anyone see this before? Posting a photo of another 2000 State Quarter alongside for comparison. View attachment 648016
I believe that what you're looking at is either pmd or a die chip. Not an error , most of this series has been gone over quite well . Errors in this series for the most part been documented within a year of release . Not to discourage you from searching as new finds do happen with more time elapsed. A prime example would be a 1919 ddo dime first discovered about 2 years ago, almost in the wild a 100 years before it was discovered . So they are out there....
View attachment 648032 Hey thanks Paddy! I'm not arguing with you but I took Die chip into consideration before I posted. I looked at a hundred photos of die chips and none that I saw were as smooth as the surrounding area. I'll keep looking... I can't remember what pmd stands for though.
Ahhh post mint damage...right.. I took that into consideration due due to the overall look of the coin. As for a die chip..every one I've seen is similar to this one in a photo from the VV website..it's smooth in places, but there's always a tell tale sign because of the rough patch. What are the chances that a die chip happened to my coin but the extra material formed another, bigger eyelid which followed the same lines of the eye detail? Look at the corner of the eye...even the upper eyelid looks as if it's missing the droopy bag on top of the eye. I'll try to get some clearer photos taken in am.
@Paddy54 I found this yesterday on an uncirculated 2008 HI state quarter. A die crack, right? It also has a few cuds on it.
I'm leaning towards a die gouge under the eye. The line looks thin and I don't think it matches up with any feature on the eye that would indicate a DDO. It looks too regular in shape to be a die chip. Just my opinion, but who knows. BTW: Nice pics
If it's an abbirition (die chip), you would clearly see it in MS condition 63 or above, the metal protruding from the surface. Lamination has a similar effect that tiny blobs adhere to the surfaces during the stamping processes, that makes high marks. Scuffs and scratches, along with bag marks are definitely PMD.
2000 P or D? To my left within reach just happens to be 2000 bucks worth of quarters all sorted. I am of a different opinion than PMD or such and I'd like to see if I can find another like it. Hemorrhoidal Horse with horse balls in Caesar's name. Found it last night. Oh, and some epic doubling, most likely MD, but, cool anyhow. Lemme know and I'll see if I can find a match to your pink eye GW.
You know... I had a weird feeling I wrote 2008 on this coin but when I checked the original posting, it had 2000. So I pushed the feeling aside until I saw this.. yes I mean 2000 D VA. Thank you!!
IT appears Mr. Rodney ran the IT out of this horse, perhaps that had sat on his donkey too much, who then left him a nasty message indicating he wanted Mr. Rodney to Ceas. I looked on Cuds On Coins, notta. Frankly, this new discovery should have already shut down the internet having even the PETA folk all up in arms.
Yes sir, I heard of this legendary quarter coin. I happened across a DELAWARE quarter with blobs of metal on the hump of the horse too. Lamination defect. Is the D in Delaware showing a doubling of sorts? like in the top middle of the letter "D" too? I just looked at a couple, and they're struck different. Yours appears to have a "Filled letter ""R"" in CESAR too.
Wow! Those are incredible arrows you're using to point out a specific area on your photo! What do you use?
The Aviary free photo editing app. At bottom under 'stickers' I use the one circled in photo, the arrows are in there. You can shrink & move them to any size.
