my gramma found a dateless one troy ounce 999 fine silver coin. Eagle with shield on chest and banner through beak, the letter small D T below the tail. 12 or 13 stars around the eagles head then wheat in one claw and an olive branch in the other. On the reverse side it has a chicks head with the word liberty above her head 7 stars left of liberty and 6 stars right of the liberty. I was just wondering if any one could help me identify this coin and maybe it's value
If you can take a picture and post it that would be helpful, but it sounds like it is just a silver round and its value is typically worth its weight in silver. Most dealers will pay anywhere between $12-15 dollars for these and will sell them to you for whatever the current price of silver is that date, sometimes with a small mark-up.
It's probably a silver round. If you look for the term 'silver round' on Ebay you'll find many examples, prices, and perhaps even yours. There are many different types and they are very collectible and worth their bullion value and sometimes a premium for certain designs.
