UK coins laid out in a shield

    For those who may not have seen this before - UK 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and a 50p (roughly) laid out to form a shield.

    Okay so it's not an exact shield but works!

    I live in England and I don't recognise any of them. I suppose I just don't look at modern stuff, too gimmicky.

    But then, I have never thought much of the decimal coins anyway.

    I liked the story how they were created. Wasn't it a female art student who came up with the idea in a national contest? Brilliant. OTOH there should be a national contest to remove Ernest Borgnine from the obverse of your coins. :(

    Btw, yeah, ours suck too. Just a different type of suck, one of dead presidents portrayed increasingly flat and cartoonish. In fact, cartoons would be an improvement. I think most Americans would approve of Mickey Mouse over our current coins, (and more would recognize him too, but that is another sad, sad story).

    Homer Simpson would be both more appropriate and I think more popular.

    Ernest Borgnine was a Catholic, impossible for him to be on a British coin, its against the law. :p
