I attended a coin show last month in Houston. It was a medium sized show, but it did have a few dealers who sold ancient coins! I have not bought a lot of RR silver lately, but picked up two consecutive Crawford #s - 426/3 & 427/1 (Sear #s - 386 & 387). Neither is high grade, but both are trophy coins! I forgot to ask Nick what the red dot on the description card meant. Left coin above Roman Republic C. MEMMI.C.F, 57 BC. AR Denarius. Obv - Bust of Ceres Rev - Captive kneeling before trophy 3.43 gm Memmia.10. Cr.427/1. Toned VF+, well centered, good strike, surface irregularities (pictures look worse than coin), scarce Right coin above Roman Republic Faustus Cornelius Sulla, 56 BC. AR Denarius. Obv - Diademed bust of Venus Rev - Three trophies, between capis and lituus, in ex – monogram 3.93 gm Cornelia.63 Cr.426/3 Toned VF, slightly off center with strike weakness on reverse, signs of circulation wear, bankers marks on obverse, scarce Struck by the dictator Sulla's grandson. @TIF thought of you when I saw this one -
I like them both and would love to have them and the last one as well. I've been looking for one of those within my budget.
..those are nice!..how much was the sewer goddess coin going for there rr?... edit: oh...nevermind..i see it now that i lQQk.. damn.. $950.... it'll be awhile before i get that one..
Nice pick ups @rrdenarius ! I really like your Memmius and do not have one! Here are my Sewer and Faustus Sulla denarii: RR Mussidius Longus 42 BCE AR Den Rad Sol Platform CLOACIN S 494 Cr494-42 RR Faustus Cornelius Sulla 56 BCE AR Den Venus Signet Pompey S 386 Cr426-3
Thanks @Alegandron , your Sula has great details. I think the red dots on the descriptions are because they were unsold lots in internet auctions. I think my pic of Memmius is better than the catalog pic - When I make my pics bigger, the surface makes the coin look bad.
