I had been looking for this Sestertius for a while. The type is not really rare but still hard to find for a reasonable price. I already had this coin on my vcoins wish list and decided that this example is good enough for me. In my eyes it is one of Trajan's most intriguing Sestertii. Especially considering that the conquest of Dacia has had major consequences for Trajan, the empire and the Dacians. Trajan 98-117 IMP CAES NERVAE TRAIANO AVG GER DAC PM TR P COS V PP, laureate head right, slight drapery on left shoulder SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI, S-C across fields, Dacia seated left on a pile of arms, trophy to left, oval and angular shields around her. AE Sestertius Struck 104-107 22,15g/ 32mm Ric 564 Ex Marti Classical Numismatics @Curtisimo wrote a great piece about the Dacian wars. It is therefore not my intention to do this again: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/trajan-the-best-emperor-and-the-mystery-of-the-river-god.318843/ This coin is another nice continuation of my Trajan collection. And I'm probably going to focus entirely on his coins. Please show your coins of Trajan, coins that commemorate victories, or anything else that you find relevant.
I have Trajan 98-117 AD AE sestertius Obv "IMP CAES NERVAE TRAIANO AVG GER DAC PM TRP COS V PP" Laureate bust left Rev "SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI SC" Emperor on horseback right spearing Dacian in front of horse Rome mint EDITED: B/S/T only allowed in advertising after 10 normal posts.
Nice coin. I'd love to have a sestertius of his some day. Here's mine: Bronze (Orichalcum) Dupondius Rome mint, A.D. 103-111 Obv: IMP CAES NERVAE TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS V P P Rev: SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI - Fortuna standing, facing left, holding cornucopia and resting rudder on prow of ship, between S and C RIC 402 29mm, 8.6g.
Trajan? - Check Victory? - Check Commemorating a victory? - Not so much...But I only have 3 Trajans so it will have to do. Plus I like the portrait Trajan AE As Obverse: IMP CAES NERVA TRAIAN AVG GERM PM, laureate head right Reverse: TR POT COS III PP SC, Victory walking left, carrying shield inscribed SPQR
For the Dacian war, I have this denarius showing a mourning Dacia: And for the Parthian war, these sestertii showing Rex Parthis Datis (A King Given to Parthia) and Regna Adsignata (Kingdoms Assigned):
Cool version of "Dacia Victa"! Second Dacian war, I believe. Here's one of Trajan honoring Mars, the war-god who made it all possible. This is my favorite coin of Trajan in my collection: Trajan, AD 98-117 Roman AR denarius; 2.95 gm, 20 mm Rome, AD 114-117 Obv: IMP CAES NER TRAIANO OPTIMO AVG GER DAC, laureate and draped bust, right Rev: P M TR P COS VI P P S P Q R, Mars walking right with spear and trophy Refs: RIC 337; BMCRE 536-40; Cohen 270; RCV --; Woytek 520v; Strack 230; BN 819.

'Special' Trajan Sestertii are, as you say, not really rare but most I see are well worn. They must have remained in circulation for a long time. Captive mourning Liberalitas distribution scene
Great addition @Parthicus Maximus . I have always thought that one could focus on just coins issued under Trajan and put together a really great collection. I find more interest in his reverse types as a group than any other emperor. Here are a few of my Trajan’s for the thread. Commemorating the Dacian War(s).
