Hello everyone. Today I'm calling "Trade Dollar TUESDAY". Please post one of yours. This is my 1878S Trade dollar that's also a Doubled Die Reverse. Notice the doubling all throughout the reverse upon enlargement. Thanks!
Fake Alert! I do not own a Trade dollar. So, I have listed my Chinese fake. I am actively looking for a reasonably priced trade dollar with at least ten chop marks. If anyone has one for sale, please contact me. If listing a fake is against policy or etiquette, I apologize.
My Proof My Unc. My Chop mark piece Box Trade Dollar - This one requires a description. In the late 19th century it was a fad to hollow out a coin and then replace the side that had been cut out with a hinge on it. The real use was to store a picture, perhaps of a family member. Romantic thinkers said these coins were used to smuggle opium. I have read that this practice was common during the 1893 Columbian Exposition. There are Columbian Half Dollars that have been turned into box coins.
You have to push around on the surface until you find the sweet spot where it opens a crack. Then you can push the lid up. It’s not that easy.
Yeah. I don’t have a 76 77 78cc trade. A 73-s a 75 s and p and 73 75 76 78 79 81 and 83 in proof and of course 84 and 85. Trade dollars. That’s my series I collect. I honestly don’t have much in 20th c coinage. But i have a fair degree of completeness on a type set.
WoW! Impressive to say the least. This is my only one. Don't know what I paid but I know it wasn't much more than $100. I worry about the authenticity of these however even graded.
Seen a lot of fakes. Seen a lot of real ones too. I’m pretty good with authenticity. Most I paid was the 74 proof. And it’s worth a lot more now. It’s a 64 cam cac pcgs.
No. I like them. But trade dollars are my thing. Early dollars too but they’ve gone up so much in the last few years
