I see the Orange White & Black "50 state" writing quarter rolls from the mint starting at R21 (NH), also seeing ebay blue white and red rolls "50 state" of all years. Are these blue and white ones legit? Why did the mint start the R series at NH? amateur collector
Well I'm confused - haven't got a clue what you are talking about. What in the world is an R series or an R21
R Series answer The mint sells these, R21 is the number given to New Hampshire set of 2 rolls (1 P 1 D), the number goes up one digit each new quarter, R43 is California, R44 is Minnesota.... My question was if anyone knew anything about the rolls on ebay with blue and red ink, the mint ones (R series) are orange and black ink. I am suspicious of the blue and red ink 50 state rolls and was looking for another opinion.
OK - so your question is are the rolls with different colored ink sold by the mint ? If they are - it will say so on the roll. But I don't see what difference it makes. You see, other than the color of the ink, the rolls sold by the mint are absolutely no different than the rolls you can get at the bank.
I appreciate your responsiveness, but are not giving me new information. The orange and black 50 state mint roll sets (R series) actually do carry a premium in resale, so they are different to collectors. Everything else is bank rolls, not mint rolled. My question has to do with the the blue and red ink ones, who knows where they are coming from? I suspect some private company is repackaging and selling loose uncirculated coins from bags, so they are not from the mint, like the R series. That is my question, who knows about the source of these other coins?
Oh I do understand what you mean - but there really is no such thing as a mint wrapped roll. The mint does not wrap them. The mint will send bags of coins, the very same bags & coins they send to the Federal Reserve, to a private company who then rolls the coins and sends them to the mint's distribution center in Tennesee. And yes I am fully aware that there are those who pay a premium for these so called mint rolls - but that's just because they don't know any better. For some reason people seem to think that the coins in the "mint rolls" are different or of better quality. But they are not. The ONLY difference is the printing on the paper. ALL rolls are rolled by private companies. Often the same private company that produces the "mint rolls". Read the article found - HERE It will explain a lot.
