i HAVE A STATE QUARTER THAT LOOKS LIKE IT'S MADE OF ALUMINUM VERY DISTINCT FINISH FROM ALL OTHER STATE QUARTERS. REVERSE OBVERSE AND EDGE IS ALL ALUMINUM LOOKING. DOES ANY ONE KNOW HOW MUCH SOMETHING LIKE THIS IS WORTH? i AM AT WORK AND DON'T HAVE IT IN FRONT OF ME SO LATER I WILL ATTACH A PICTURE. i ALSO HAVE A IOWA STATE QUARTER THAT IS MISSING ITS CLAD LAYER ON THE REVERSE, THE STATE SIDE OF IT. ANY ONE WHO HAS INFORMATION ON THE WORTH OF THESE COINS LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU. SINCERELY RNADNTOBE
welcome to the forum! i've heard of the missing clad layers, but not an aluminum finish. how do you know its aluminum? definatly post some pictures of it and we can more accuratly tell what it is worth.
Check the obverse for a mint-mark. It will either be a P, D or an S If it's an S...then it means someone put a Silver Proof into circulation. Silver quarters have an aluminum look and feel to them. If you drop it on a table it should ring instead of making a thud like a normal quarter. If it's not an S, and is P or D, then it would not be silver and i have no idea what happened
RNA: Welcome, and please try to post some pictures. I can't imagine what you mean by an aluminum finish. The clad reverse layer missing is a good find, tho.
The Rhode Island State Qurter With Aluminum Finsih Has A P On It Not An S . Pictures Will Be Available Soon As I Will Be Barrowing A Dig Camera To Photograph It. This Coin Must Be A Rare Error As No One Seems To No What It Is Worth Or Has Ever Seen A State Quartrer With An Aluminum Looking Finish It Is Not Shiny Like The State Quarters It Is Silver Almost Like The Back Of Aluminum Foil. its a platinum plated coin from the telemarketers. my dad likes those kind of sets for some crazy reason
Maybe I missed it, but do we even know if the copper layer is visible? I think it is likely just an off color coin. I have some W VA quarters that are very white , but they are just super clean. Of course it could be plated but a "rare error" is doubtful.
