Ok. A guy on another forum posted these pics and said he has a solid gold quarter and a jeweller told him it is solid gold. Myself and a couple other people told him that it is not, but I don't think he really believes us, lol. So I asked his permission to post his pics on a larger forum just to get more feedback. I'll give him the link to this thread later. Here are the pics. Oh and by the way, as you'll see, only parts of the coin appear gold. And also we told him its probably gold plated, he said its not gold plated because he tried to scrape gold off and there is just more gold underneath.
    ???
    Well, thanks for looking. ;)

    It's not solid gold.

Not much sense arguing with people like that, though.

    Gold weighs more than Clad.

Tell the neurosurgeon to have it weighed at a Jewelery shop, if it's clad it should weigh about 5.7 grams, if it's silver it should weigh around 6.3 grams and if it's gold, a piece that size ought to weigh close to 9 grams.

I suggest that i has an actual value of... wait for it... 28c.

    28 cents? Why so generous?

I'd sell it to that jeweler.

If it is genuine those scratches will certainly lower its value to a collector.

Still I'm sure it would be very valuable if genuine.

I agree with everything said. I just wanted more than two opinions from people who know about coins to show the guy who owns this quarter. Thanks guys.

If it was genuine I'm thinking it would be worth a fortune. Unfortunately I think we all know that the mint did not make a solid gold quarter.

I have to give you credit for not believing in fairy tales, or other things like Santa, the tooth Fairy and 'solid' gold quarters.

My advice to the guy would be to sell it to the jeweler for anything over 25c.

perhaps it was solid gold plated in silver, eh? ever think of that?

but seriously it just looks like it's been heavily plated in gold.
getting it weighed would be the best bet!
