Hello everyone, I'm collecting Libertads now when I can, I know the Key Date is the 1998 1oz at 67,000. If you look at 2017, the fractional pieces have way less mintages but do not have a very high premium at all. Can anyone answer that? Are they just not as sought after as the 1998? I also managed to obtain a 1999 1 oz as well since it is "low mintage", but a 2000 1/20th at mintage 57k is going for $16??? I just don't understand, why isn't there a very high premium on that one, there are plenty of years that have lower mintages than the 98 and are not $100 plus. I also can't seem to find a true key date list for these. Thanks!
The fractionals are not as collected as the onzas. Plus: If you think about the $16 coin that is 1/20 oz silver, that is 75 cents worth of silver selling for $16. That is over 20 times silver content. The 1998 is $300 and silver is $15. Also, 20 times silver.
makes sense about the price/silver content. To me $16 bucks is really good for something that was only made in the thousands or whatever mintage. Last year I got really lucky and got the 1998 for $115!!!
Hmm.. it was fixed price. I guess it's fake then, but I will verify tonight when I get home. if it was then I should have known better.
Hey, don't give up hope, I really like Libertads too (and Onzas) and would like to have a 1/10, but the mark-up puts me off. I bought a BEAUTIFUL Libertad and thought it was a proof, posted pics here at CT and everyone Ooo-ed and Ahh-ed about how nice it looked, then I got it close to a magnet and "click" it stuck. Try a magnet as a quick first test.
seller who sold me the 98 member since 2012 with 592 positive reviews and 0 negative. ok ill weigh it in tonight and take some pics. ***ill try the magnet too.
I don't think it's fake, but it's always good to check. I opened this thread 4 years ago: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/guess-the-fake-sad-poll-libertad.242985/ and most voters got it wrong.
Here are the pics, I did the magnet test and it did not stick. Used an earth magnet to check. Hope I didnt screw up my cards since I placed it right by my wallet. I'll find out in a bit when I try to go buy something. It looks legit, the mountain peaks look right and everything else.
