This weekend I purchased this 1966 coin set. According to the packaging, it was originally issued by the government of the Bahamas. There is a 3” x 5” card included which makes the following statement: These coins have been specially selected for quality at the time of manufacture by the Royal Mint in London. While discoloration from tarnishing may eventually occur, it does not affect the value of the coins and therefore, substitutions of replacements cannot be made - Ministry of Finance The silver coins are the 50-cent, 1-dollar, 2-dollar, and 5 dollar coins. These total 2.8721 ounces of silver. The dealer simply multiplied 2.8721 x $41 to come up with his sale pricefor the set. I believe silver is down today but it was $41.50 on this last weekend. I don’t know if the silver coins ever really circulated in the Bahamas. I am certain that the lower denomination coins (25 cent through 1 cent) have circulated on the islands at par with the US coins. If you have any other coin sets from the Bahamas, please post them.
