Should the word "LIBERTY" appear on paper currency of the United States?

I think the word "LIBERTY" should appear on the $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 dollar bills, as it does on American coins. A ideal place for it would be near the Federal Reserve Seal. What are your opinions and ideas?

I rather think that U.S. currency currently has sufficient symbols of liberty in place, such that adding the word "liberty" would just be redundant and clutter the design of notes that have been effective at protecting the currency and projecting the image of liberty crafted and defended by those persons and institutional structures represented on U.S. currency.

I highly doubt that such a change as you suggest is something that we will be seeing added to the currency any time soon. It would simply entail massive redesign efforts and the creation of and implementation of new printing plates. That's not something that happens on a whim by deciding to add new features to currency just to be consistent with coinage. It would also mean that new awareness campaigns about the new designs would have to be launched globally so people would know to accept and use the new notes as authentic U.S. currency. Those things all costs a tremendous amount of money and as we have seen with the number of years it has taken to re-deisgn each denomination with the so-called 'large head' design, it's not something that rolls out quickly. Additionally, the redesign of the $2 notes is NOT something in the works. Government spending cutbacks that are currently hot topic issues being debated and being curtailed are further indicators that there will not be such a redesign anytime soon, not lest new security features are needed to protect the currency from counterfeits.

But in the meantime, if the so-called "new" $100 note is ever finished and issued with its current design, it would feature an image of the "Liberty Bell in the ink well", so maybe that's something to hold you over.

Lastly, some might say that 'legal tender' isn't a form of, Liberty such that it's fitting not to have it on paper currency...

 

I agree thats what they'd probably do, but I also would bet money that the BEP could change US currency to read "UBDITED SRNOES FO ABVRPKZ" in place of " UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and maybe, and thats a gigantic, huge maybe, 1 person in a million would even notice. People don't look at money. They would never see an added Liberty motto, much less a major change as I've illustrated. It would be a fun experiment for sure.
