Saw an ad for Ruthenium Half Dollar. What is Ruthenium? Any good? Anybody know mintage on this coin? https://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-black-ruthenium-2015-half-dollar-coin-with-24k-gold-jfk-portrait
http://www.rsc.org/periodic-table/element/44/ruthenium Kind of cool looking, but in the end, it's probably just another plated coin. If you're looking at it as an aesthetic piece, it's not terribly expensive. But if you're looking at as an "investment", it probably wouldn't be worth anywhere near that price in the end.
It didn't come from the US mint in that condition, making it just another damaged coin and only worth face value. Don't fall for the hype.
I guess that says it right there. I can't stand third party plated coins. Maybe one day I'll buy a solid ruthenium bullion coin to add to the collection if someone makes one.
But wait, there's more: Showcased in an acrylic capsule Includes full-color Certificate of Authenticity

I agree all a gimmick, but still, kinda neat looking. This silver eagle on ebay for instance: http://www.ebay.com/itm/THE-BURNING...henium-Gold-Plated-Silver-Eagle-/181759164636

Genuine JFK half-dollar lavished in black ruthenium attracts the eye with a 24K gold portrait of John F. Kennedy There you have it, 'lavished' is the new word for plated. I'd like to lavish some strokes of the cane on the whizz that thought up that piece of bollox speak. And of course the 24K portrait is only a few molecules thick.
