Hi all, I am interested in purchasing currency containers for a few of my bills. I currently have some rigid and some semi-rigid holders. I really like the rigid holders better then the semi, but I see from some that the rigid may contain PVC and over time that is bad for the paper. Is this true? Can you find rigid holders without PVC? These are the ones I am interested in: http://www.ebay.com/itm/25-RIGID-Pl...256?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f13f99880 What are your opinions on these? Thanks so much in advance,
Clay has a great writeup on holders, here. A quote from him "...Sometimes, though, with a little research, you may find the "hard plastic" currency holder is made of acrylic or polystyrene, which should be fine." Personally I use the flexible holders, and wouldn't touch anything with PVC. Dave
Good topic. I use these Mylar Currency Sleeves for my notes because I love how crystal clear and unobtrusive they are. Plus they are supposedly archival safe, so I don't have to worry about damaging the note. The only downside is that these sleeves are very flexible and won't protect from bending, etc. For some of my higher value "un-slabbed" notes, I will put them in one of those types of sleeves and then place them inside of a BCW Rigid holder for the added protection. So far, this has worked for me, but I would be interested in hearing what others think about this method.
Currently using Supersafe heavyweight holders, they're semi-rigid. The BCW ones you are showing should be fine too.
I use the BCW ones and keep them in either a safe or SDB at the bank. Never noticed any issues with them personally.
As soon as I saw his post I immediately went into joke post overdrive, only to see you beat me to the punch. Well played sir, well played...
I bought some "semi-rigid" , some Safguard (not even semi-rigid), and some BCW styrene slabs. Notes look really fancy in those.
