Red Book values accurate

    Just curious if the prices are correct. Seems to me the prices in RB are higher than what I see on both eBay and my LCS. Sorry of this has been covered or is a naive question.

    I wouldn't and don't use the Red Book as a price guide. The prices listed in the most recent editions are usually much higher than what the coins actually sell for.

    NumisMedia is more accurate in my opinion.

    Most price guides are inflated. I usually look to sold auction prices as my guide. The issue with the rebook is it's printed a year ahead of time and can't reasonably keep up with the market. Online resources do better as they can be updated readily.

    At best they are out of date...

    The book is released months before the cover date
    Printed before that
    Researched before that...

    So prices from November 2022 might be in the 2024 book

    Don’t use the Redbook for coin values. The Redbook is our go to source for information, but not values. You can use the value guide to determine desirability but use other sources for true value.
