I have seen coins from Mexico bring ridiculous premiums at times, and sometimes you can buy them for under spot. I am not including the Libertad series in this conversations as those always command a premium. I have a big collection of 90% junk US coins, and love them, but I love all coins silver and gold. I go to antique shows and flea markets, and sometimes my buddy dealers that I deal with all the time get hoards of them. Just want to get some feedback, and if you do collect .. what is your favorite coin to collect from Mexico, being bullion or Numismatic.

    Thanks
    -Joe

I don't have any .720/.900 mexican silver coins... YET. They have always interested me and I do plan on collecting them someday.

    EDIT: Oops, I forgot I actually do have one .720 mexican silver coin! I think it's a 1953 or 1959 5 peso.

    Just bought a bunch...

I have a few and have lowered my junk silver holdings to buy more Mexico Silver. I recently met someone who had a coin shop, closed it 12 years ago, and never sold his inventory. So he has a hoard of all types of coins from all over the world, mostly US, CAN, and MEX. I bought some 100 peso Morelos coins, I like them because the silver content is located clearly on each coin. Bought 3 rolls of 20 at 15 per coin, so $900 total. Below spot, I can make a little money on them,. but plan to keep them, as I am always mentally bullish on silver.

Hey Joe, there's quite a few Mexican coin collectors here. I like the Cuauhtémoc 5 pesos, fat 90 percenter. Works for me.:D

    love em too!

I dig those too because of their high silver content. Also love the 1955-1956 10 peso
.900 coins. On he smaller spectrum the 10 & 20 centavos silver of the early 1900's to the 40's

I collect Mexican coins, but I tend to stick with non-silver centavo denominations. I like coins for coins, and do not really care what metal was used to make them. If I wanted to buy silver then I would buy silver. When I buy a coin I want to pay for a coin, not what's in it.

    I hear ya..

I go in extremes...I like the big crown coins or the tiny stuff. The old 1890's one centavos coins, the bigger ones have always been appealing to me ... Most I have are worn, but still have legible dates. On the other spectrum, the little 10 centavos of the 70's with the upright ear of corn are fun too. There is just much to much :)

I really like the 19th century one pesos and 8 reales issues, but have some, (maybe 50) 20th century silver. For the 20th century, the "cabillitos" issue struck in Paris is my favorite.

I find the older I get the more I like Mexican coins for some reason. :) I wish PM prices were down, I would buy more of the gold issues.

@Beachbum 99 ... Yeah, the counterfeit coins are very common, they sell for 25 cents to 1 dollar a piece, they are lighter than the real thing. Mainly if they weight what they're supposed to and are the diameter they are supposed to be along with thickness, you're 99% there.

@Medoraman.... yes I love the Caballitos, I would love to get the rare ones in decent shape, but they can get expensive. 8 reales are beautiful too, and not hard to find with some gorgeous toning.

    @Wildboyd2 ......AAAHHHH BOGIE....dang I love that movie!!

Hi. I'm new here but I have 7 Mexican silver coins & 1 coin from China. In weight, they weigh over 140 grams & I know silver is currently trading at .56 cents a gram. I have seen 2 of the coins I have for sale on eBay for anywhere between $45 to over $400. I want to sell my coins but I collect American coins so I don't kn I w much about Mexican coins. Can anyone offer me any advice?

Welcome Pattyb, when looking at prices on ebay, if you don't already do it, check the 'sold' prices to get the best estimate of closer value. Mexico coins are rarer in the northeast, but in So.Calif., especially the border area, you can find many of the silver coins that are sold farther north as collectors coins, sold here at bullion.
