Can the delamination extend past the coins surface onto the rim? Or will it always be inside of the rim? I have this 1993 quarter...the way it looks it appears to be a Lamination but it is in the rim as well...
A Lamination is a Planchet Error and not a Striking error. In other words it already existed on the planchet before it was struck. So yes.
Here are 5 good explanations - http://www.error-ref.com/lamination-error-loss-before-strke/ http://www.error-ref.com/lamination-loss-after-strike/ http://www.error-ref.com/lamination-loss-after-strike/ http://www.error-ref.com/retained-lamination/ http://www.error-ref.com/lamination_fold-over_before_strike/ Here is an example from my collection
You've got some great stuff in your collection, that's for sure. That is awesome...and does resemble mine the way it's on the rim. I'll check out the info, thanks
Seems like you were happy with my help here on this thread.. So you can't say I always had something negative to say about your coins.. I'm here to help you not try to deter you in any way.. Got it?
It's a lamination error. That did not take place in the minting process. It was already on the blank planchet. Yes, a lamination error can occur anywhere on the coin, including the edge, the rim, on a plain flat field or on letters and numbers or the design-Anywhere.
