    Hey guys,

So those of you who look in coinstar reject bins, how do you go about looking through them without looking sketchy? I always feel self conscious about going up to the coinstar, not using it for actual coinstar stuff, feeling around in the reject tray and leaving. I feel like security might think I'm stealing something... Any advice on how to go about this?

    Thanks in advance.

When I see coins in a Coinstar's reject bin, I take 'em. Never a problem.

And I don't feel a bit self-conscious. AFAIK, those coins are fair game -- like reject coins in a pay phone.

But I don't examine the coins until after I leave the store.

    My latest find:

Sadly, the 1948 one shilling is cupro-nickel and worth maybe six cents U.S.

Although I usually only check whenever I deposit my extensive accumulation of Lincoln cents, what I would recommend is walking by the machine and glancing in the tray. Usually, you can see if something is there.

Again, as fellow coin hunters have noted, the new message (check the coin cup) on the machine doesn't help in the finding of coins.

I couldn't care less what someone else thinks. I see coins in the reject, I walk over, head held high, shoulders back, take all the cup has to offer.

If you don't do it, someone else will.......like me or @Legomaster1 or @COCollector

On my last visit to change my coins in CoinStar there was 1 cent that did not want to be counted it was a wheaty. I tried putting it in 4 times and it kept spitting it back out at me so I kept it.

Meow has not found much since they pointed out the coin return tray in the programming a year or so ago. At one time Meow found 3 silver dimes in in 4 trips to the coinstar. Meaning finding one, finding another one the next time.; Coming up empty the third time, but finding another one on the fourth visit. At best Meow finds only a zinc cent to two at the most now. Meow is quite sad that has happened. But on a happy note, Meow just found two silver dimes CRH in the last few weeks. Meow thinks Meow has 10 silver dimes CRH for a year and 3/4. Now Meow has to find that "silver" mini album in the Cat hoard and add them to it.
    Happy CRH all!

I believe it's technically abandoned property and your local and state law would apply.

That would be sketchy - going up to the lost and found and asking if they found your silver quarter.

    "Can you describe it?"
"Round, silver, has the head of some dead guy on one side and a supersized chicken on the other..."

I think you're to self-conscious. Forget the rejection bins. I'm on my hands and knees looking around, behind and under the machines! They don't call me homeless for nothing!

Don't feel bad, I've seen @paddyman98 with his metal detector at the 452 W 43rd St. Coinstar Machine. :hilarious:

Beyond the reject bin, I might feel self conscious.

For instance, I don't get down on my hands & knees to look underneath a Coinstar machine.

Although maybe someday I might use an ordinary ruler to blindly sweep underneath. I imagine it'd just take a moment.
