Question about a 1941 Nickel error....

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by Bigbluemax2017, Dec 24, 2018.

  1. I was going through some older nickels and came across a 1941 Nickel with the error on the reverse. Ill attach a picture and hopefully I could possibly get some input on this. when your looking at the picture the error im referring to is on the letters O in "of" and the one that really sticks out is the letter R in "America" if you look at the R the tail of the R, when it rounds the top of the R you can see a long thin line of metal extending through the M and E in America and when you look at the O in of there is the same error going through the O at an angle. When you look at both letters the metal goes the length of each line but also is ontop of the letters and goes all the way down to the surface of the coin like a thin wall of metal. I hope I have given a good enough description and if the picture I attach isnt enough I can take more if needed. Thanks for any help I can get regarding this.

It is possible you are describing a die crack. Can you take a photo of the whole reverse side of the coin? I’d like to see it not blown up. It could also be simply something extra on the coin.

  4. I had put it away and took some pictures of a few error coins I have and was wondering if anyone has seen these? Ive looked around and no luck as of finding the error I found, do you think you could please give me your input or anyone that sees the pictures. The one that has me wondering what kind of an error this would be, the one im talking about is the picture of Quarter Dollar where the letters are raised up. The Millard Fillmore and the Everglades with what looks to be a cud on top of the birds head. I was hoping to get some info on these and if anyone thinks these coins have any value to them? Thanks again for taking the time out to read my post and give me whatever feedback or info anyone can offer.... Thank you.

So, your Everglades quarter shows die deterioration doubling. It is common and does not have any added value. http://www.error-ref.com/die-deterioration-doubling/

Above the bird’s head is a die chip. Cud’s are only due chips that form on the rim of a coin.

The Everglades coin won’t get you any real premium, but it’s a cool find and I keep just about every coin I find with die chips.

Your presidential dollar shows plating blisters, which is also common and will not have any special premium. That’s actually an air pocket there, and can lead you corrosion, and can also later “pop”. You could pop it with a toothpick or hard object if you wished. If you like it, keep it. http://www.error-ref.com/blisteredplating/
