I loved that island when I went there. Had to have this Dime I bought later. Would you call this a foreign coin ? (since it was before Puerto Rico was a territory) your Comments on this coin?

Puerto Rico became a US Territory in 1898, so it’s definitely a World coin and not a US one. I still need one for my collection. Waiting for @paddyman98 to find one on the ground next time he visits. Very nice coin :)

Both coins pictured are from when Puerto Rico was a Spanish colonial possession. Note the Pillar Dollar reverse and the Alphonse XIII "Toddler King" obverse.
I'm estimating SMan's coin at about an AU 55. Note the nice facial features and hair on the kid and the especially fine detail on the crown, shield and pillars.
Paddyman's is a graded XF 45 so SMan's has to be in the mid AU range.

Guys, don't let those Krause values fool you. You could better expect to cut those about in half.

Thank you folks, mine wasn't graded. I just liked it and bought it a while back. Thanks for the update on it though.

To paraphrase Britney Spears : " Oops, I did it again! "

After checking eBay sold listings , I found prices for these all over the map. One as low as $4.95 on Feb. 23, 2019 and many others in the $30 - $70 dollar range. A few even higher. Surprisingly to me, condition did not appear to be the determining factor in the prices. It may have been " Auction Fever ".

Again, my apologies to all participants of this thread, especially SMan, Paddyman and Yoda.

Yoda, we are now 2 and 0 , your favor !

That $4.95 price on ebay was a steal and I wish I saw it :) Most of the time Puerto Rican silver coins on ebay are expensive. Check out the prices they get for the crown sized peso coins.

no problem. sometimes Krause values are right on and most times values are way off market value. depends what coin it is...

Yes, you are correct, Sir. It was a great price.
I like the large crown size silver coins also and buy one when ever I can afford one, which isn't that often.
I started a bid on an older Cuban Peso and watched it quickly pass me by and then finish at $94.00.

Yes, I would call it a world coin. As the others pointed out, we didn't acquire Puerto Rico as a territory until the Spanish American War in 1898.

My Spanish is a little rusty and I am having a hard time making it all out and translating it.

    Alfonso is obviously a name.
"III" obviously is referring to Roman Numerals.
    "Rey" is king.
    "de Espana" is of Spain
"Isla de Puerto Rico" is the Island of Puerto Rico.

What are the rest of the inscriptions?

I'm glad I got mine many years ago when they were cheaper. (although they were expensive for the time.)

Here's some food for thought. It's going right now. Some one better jump on it. It's way out of my league. It's a neighbor coin.
