The Mint just emailed me information on this coin and I've never purchased platinum before. Looking at the daily ask price, it seems to stay just above $800 an ounce. Does anyone that deals with platinum coins have some feed back on long term keeping a couple of these. https://catalog.usmint.gov/preamble...EJ&utm_source=Campaign&utm_content=ShopNowCTA $1,220.00 2019 Preamble to the Declaration of Independence Platinum Proof Coin - Liberty is the second in this three-year series New obverse and reverse designs One ounce 99.95 percent platinum coin Item Number: 19EJ Mintage Limit: 15,000 Product Limit: 15,000 Household Order Limit: 1
If you’re looking to make your money back it’s very unlikely that you would given the almost 50% premium over spot. I would stick with bullion coins as close to spot as you can get. Definitely a nice design but premium is just way too much in my opinion!!
I agree with the premium being way up there. Maybe I'll just wait and pick one or two after the market for them cools down. Thanks for the input.
From what I am learning, about 3 years at a heritage auction you will get it cheaper. Gold and Silver are huge right now and will draw a big premium in a couple years. There is no way to avoid what is coming. It is finally going to be PAYDAY for all the guys that spent 30 - 50 years collecting rare dates, etc.

I love the design of the Proof Platinum coins. My first was the 1997. but I have a hard ... hard .. super hard time buying them due to a high premium and large loss of premium trying to sell them. I love the reverse eagle designs. but I'm balking at the prices. So I've been passing lately ...
Took a look at last years on ebay in the sold listings, found a raw one for about $1,000, and slabbed 70's for about the same price as this years from the mint. So buy it from the Mint, pay to have it slabbed, hope to get a 70 and you have already lost money. If you don't get a 70, lose even more. 32 posts to go
That's actually a fairly attractive coin, overall. Not sure what it has to do with the Declaration (and I don't know why there's a wagon in the background), but I like the composition overall. I can't tell you anything about platinum, as I have never traded that metal.
