It’s mid-week so here’s a fun pile-on thread. Please post your coins that are in someway thick (3D) and possibly difficult to store. I can start by posting these phat examples:

    Michelangelo Desk Rev.jpg
    Michelangelo Desk Obv.jpg
This first one is an Aegean Turtle Stater which is round like a marble. I speculate that the original planchet was basically spherical & the weak strike didn’t do much to flatten it to a disk shape.

    DiShekel with quarters.jpg
This DiShekel was just manufactured with an inordinately thick planchet. The coin doesn’t include a particularly high relief design. It’s just that the darn planchet is over 5.5 mm thick

    IMG_1440.jpg
Here, the owl is struck within the incuse square leaving a really thick rim below the owl. This coin has always been challenging to fit into a holder because the lower finned edge is over 7.5 mm thick

    Lysimachus 3 Side.jpg
    Kyme side.JPG
These two beauties are just plain phat. They include very high relief designs. The challenge I have is keeping the high points from receiving contact. Storing coins like these in slabs has helped me to protect the high points.

I’ve got a couple more that are deliberately bent by the mint and are challenging to fit in the collection.

Please post ‘em if you got ‘em.

By its nature, this is a really 3D coin. I keep my one example in an old slab to accommodate the thickness.

This Thai 4 Baht coin is just totally bent & twisted.

This is an admirable coin & is one of my favorite coins ever viewed at CT. As I recall it weighs 12.0 grams. I would gladly trade all my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for this one phat turtle.

Roman protomoney is an area that I like. This tray of bronze items was sent by a dealer. I am not usre if it was all from one find, but these pieces are typical of cast bronze that might have been buried together. Note the Ax, some cast par pieces and aes rude.
    Garrucci.jpg
I am not sure if this was a bronze decoration or "pre-money". Either way, it is neat and mentioned in Italian Cast Coins by Vechhi.
    palm AE.jpg
I bought these pieces as a lot. You can see a broken cast coin, a broken bar, and two other pieces.
    aes rude pieces.jpg
At the NYINC, I saw (held) a Roman Republican As and a large Aes rude (about 1.5 asses). This is the largest Aes Rude I have seen. I hope it found a good home.

Last but not least are some scale weights that were lot one in the New York Sale auction. These are dated 800 to 1000 BC. These were standards ancient money changers used when crude metal was used in trade. FYI, they predate money by a couple of centuries.

These two sestertii of Antonius Pius have really thick planchets. Almost 5,5 + mm.

I am afraid I'll damage them when stored in trays.
