Pirate Gold of Adak Island is an eight-part reality docuseries released on Netflix. It follows the expedition team which is called to hunt down the treasure hidden in Adak Island, Alaska. Each episode has a runtime of about 25 minutes to 34 minutes respectively. The expedition team includes Dr M Jackson, Burke Mitchell, Jay Toomoth, Brian Weed and the mayor of the island Thom Spitler. In 1892, a Pirate named Gregory Dwargstaf hid gold coins worth $365 million dollars in 150 food and milk tin cans, on the island of Adak. He was running away from the govt officials and found the secluded island to be the best place to hide his treasure. But he died before he could come back to get it. In World War II, the island was used as a base by America to attack Japan. During the construction of the base in 1943, a worker found a tin can with gold coins from the 1880s-90s which was worth thousands of dollars. Later on, in 1959, another can with $2.5 million dollars worth of gold was found by a Seabee while constructing drainage.
This is pretty cool, have already watched season 1, and not like other shows where they dont find anything, have already found a couple coins and to big tins from the original stash, all $10 Liberties which is right up my alley
I'll wait until they milked it for all its worth, and if they truly find something, I might stream it. I'm not for repeating Oak Island.
Oak island is a joke, this on the other hand not so much, they have already found two tins of GOLD in 1959 then again in 1971 and Netflix wasn't around then..LOL the army removed an entire hill and moved the dirt to the other side of the island and thru soil testing and records found the exact place unfortunately allot lies on the other side of a bomb riddled keep out fence that was used to store unexploded ordinance, have found some torn up metal cans and a couple of $10 period Liberties so the evidence is intriguing never the less.
Is this the program where the mayor wants to find the gold to revitalize his town? I think I did see an episode or two of that. They were blowing up old unexploded ordinance as I recall.
The real treasure of Oak Island was the time you spent watching with family... Ok never mind. The real treasure was all the money History Channel made from 9 seasons of BS.
I couldn't stick with Oak Island. I gave up on it fairly early in the series. It was pretty lame. Adak Island is indeed different. As mpcusa said, gold has been found there. Cans full of $10 Liberty Eagles. I already watched the first season as well.
I watched this. It was encouraging that they found a few coins. What is discouraging is how much stuff has happened on the island since the gold was buried, with the military constructing bases and storing/testing weapons. I feel like it's going to be almost impossible to find anything that might have been there in this environment. I also felt that the show was really vague on where they got their information from. Besides the treasure that the military found, what's the basis for the stories of this "pirate" burying all this gold? How do they know how much it was and that it actually happened? I also feel like calling him a pirate is a stretch. He seems like more of a poacher.
There is definitely validity here, the military basically moved so much dirt that the original location at Army 1 is not even close geographically to when it was buried, you have to give then credit for finding where the dirt was moved to but now the gold has been scattered just on the other of the do not enter sign, can’t wait for season # 2.
From what I gather he was the ring leader of a smuggling operation and convinced the other members to give him all the gold to protect it from the military that was pursuing him.
