Penny VDB?

    I found a 1997 penny with what appears to be a VDB on tghe bottom left of lincolns shoulder. I dont have a magnifying glass yet and the letters may change. But what is this. It may be VDE VOE VOB im not sure the first letter may be a u.

    I know its on all pennies but does it stand for something?

    It stands for Victor David Brenner, who designed the obverse.

    It is not (the VDB) on all Lincoln cents. It was on the earlier minted 1909 and 1909 S cents reverses. It was removed and some of the cents dated 1909 and 1909 S do not have the VDB. The VDB is also not on coins dated 1910, 1911, 1912, 1913, 1914, 1915,1916,and 1917, It was returned to a position on Lincoln's shoulder in 1918.
    It was this way on cents of all mints fopr those years.
    I just wanted to clear that up :)

    PS: There is some evidence that remnants of a VDB can be found on some reverses of 1910 cents ( think it was the S mint coins, but I am not sure if it was Philly or SanFrancisco mint coins without checking some sources)
