These seem to be getting popular. I would love to do a floor like this but when it comes to "cost" I've found that a floor of pennies costs a whole heck of alot more then the finest tile or hardwood.

The article says they used 31,000 pennies. So $310 worth.

310 in pennies alone, this is not counting the motar/grout (special mix for metal is twice the price of regular) but the major cost increase is simply "labor" unless you plan to do this yourself you would have to figure 5 maybe even 10 times the man hours to lay, meaning install cost for say 12 in spanish tiles might be 3-400 dollars for 3-4 hours of labor, where the same area using pennies is going to take as much as 30-40 hours giving a price of 3000-4000 for labor.

Of course if you do it all yourself you can get away for maybe a $500 output to materials but I wouldn't want to pay the mental/physical medical bills once your done :D

I love this! However I do favor the ones that people have done where there isn't such a large space between each penny.

It looks nice now, but once that floor turns green & corroded I don't want to be the one that has to polish it.....
Or could you imagine cleaning out all the cracks when one of the kids drops a bowl of spaghetti on the floor. Ewww

I've seen some NAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTYYYYY pennies in my CRH'ing. I wouldn't want that in my kitchen. I'm sure the next super-bug that will decimate the population will start on a penny. :)
    But it does look cool...

According to the article he put a layer of sealer over it, to make the entire floor smooth.

Thats what i wouldve assumed......something like a bartop sealer so it gives it a nice clear flat finish

Even after that clear coat is put on couldn't they still corrode if the process had already started?

Very cool, but it probably smells like they coll roll hunt in their kitchen rather than cook in it. Gotta love that dirty copper smell!

Didn't alot of people used to completely lace their cadillacs with Morgans back in the 50's, 60's, and early 70's?

I have an awesome idea... Maybe someone just needs to come up with a mesh lined tile for these. That way you could lay 1 sq ft. at a time. Would make labor a lot easier and the adhesive could grab the mesh and not have to directly grab the coin. You know, the way they do the small tiles for backsplashes or accents. Someone could make some good money if (and it is a huge if) this becomes a popular trend. An MS-70 Blue Toned Cent floor would be pretty cool.
Maybe I should start a Kickstart project ;)

The only one I could find on google was a car owned by Roy Rogers which had "hundreds of collectible silver dollars" around the interior as well as a saddle with 150 silver dollars that is in the front seat. Dunno if it was a big thing or just a Roy Rogers thing.
